JOHN BACON was buried at Widmerpool, Notts., 21 Nov 1592.

He was married by 1552, his wife's name unknown.

He left a will, as follows:

In the name of god Amen, the firste daye of November in the xxxith yeare of the raigne of our soveraigne ladye Elizabeth by the grace of god of England ffraunce and Irelande Queene, defender of the fayth, etc.

I Jhon Bacon of Widmerpoole in the countye of Nottingham husbandman, thoughe of mynd and bodye of perfecte health, I thanke my god therfore, yett conceyvinge and consideringe with my selfe that nothinge is more certaine and suer then death though the hower thereof in myne owne knoledge is altogether uncertaine doe ordaine declare make and appoynte this my testamente contayninge my laste will for the disposinge ordeyninge and appoyntinge of all such worldlye goodes and substance which the lorde of his mercye hath inriched me withall, in manner and forme followinge that is to saye,

first and principallye I commit and bequeathe my soule into the handes of the eternall and indevided trenitye father sonne and holye ghoste hoopinge and most assuredly perswadinge my selfe that as the almightye father of his infinit power hath created me so the sonne of his unspeakable mercye through the sheddinge of his moste precious bloude hath redeemed and saved me and therefore the holye ghost by his unsearchable wisdome hath sanctifyed me unto eternall lyfe my bodye I committ to the earth from whence it came to be buryed within the church yarde of the parrish church in Widmerpoole aforesayde,

Item, I give unto my sonne Peter Bacon a roode of barlye ground redye sowne and the same to be delivered unto him within three yeares nexte after my death the sayd roode of corne I give him in full satisfaction of his childes parte

I give unto his children a flaxen shete and yow hogg to goe forwarde to theire use and profitt

I give unto my daughter Ann Clife in full satysfaction of her childes parte one bedstede, ii coverlits, a pare of sheites, and certaine painted clothes aboute the childrens bed in the parlor

I give unto the children of my daughter Ann Clife the coffer wherein my linnins lyeth

And I give all the linnens in the same coffer unto them and unto the daughter of my sonne Henrye Bacon to be equallye shared and devyded to everye childe a lyke portion of the sayd linnens, provided alwayes and my will it is that Richarde Bacon shall have oute of the sayd linnens of my geste a towell

I give to Henrye Clife cheldren ii platters, ii candlestickes, ii coshinges, iii sheepe, neither of the beste sorte nor of the worste sorte

I give unto my sonn Henrye Bacon the hole lease of my farme whereon I dwell which lease I tooke of the righte worshipfull Henrye Perpoynte esquier

All the resudye of my goodes cattels chattels and debtes whatsoever not before geven and bequethed my debtes beinge payde my legasies performed and I honestlye broughte to the earth I give unto my sonn Henrye Bacon and I make him my full and sole executor of this my laste will and testamente and I make Richard Mercer, Jhon Storye and James Lowe supervysors of this my laste will

provyded alwayes and my mynde and will it is that if there shall chaunce to aryse anye ambegevitye, doute, troble, discorde or contraversye by my sonn Henrye Baken or anye other person or persones aboute or concerninge this my laste will and testamente that then the same that be desyded determened and endid by my lovinge frendes Richard Mercer, Jhon Stacye and James Lowe, beinge my supervysers of this my laste will and what end soever shal be by them or ii of them set downe my mynde and will it is that the same shall stande and be houlden good in lawe and if anye that I have geven anye legasie or bequethe unto in this my laste will shall goe about to breake such ende or endes as aforesayde then my will is that such partye or partyes shal be cleane excluded from the benefit of this my laste will

in witnes to this my last will and testamente I have sette my hand the day and yeare above written

1. PETER BACON, living, with children in 1592.

+2. ANN BACON, bapt. at Widmerpool, 14 Feb 1551/2; buried at Widmerpool, 16 Jun 1599; m. at Widmerpool, 30 Jul 1580, HENRY CLIFF, who was bapt. at Widmerpool, 6 Mar 1551; buried at Widmerpool, 19 Sep 1613.

3. HENRY BACON, bapt. at Widmerpool, 8 Aug 1554; m. by 1584; living, with children, in 1592. His wife may have been DOROTHY BRUMBY, daughter of John Brumbye of Cotgrave, Notts. In John Brumby's will, dated 22 Nov 1581, he mentioned "Anne, the daughter of Dorathie Bakon my daughter" and "also to Henry Bakens daughter, one ewe." Children of Henry Bacon:

a. RICHARD BACON, bapt. at Widmerpool, 2 Nov 1584; m. at Widmerpool, 19 Jan 1613, SENCE CLARKE.

b. daughter BACON, living in 1592.


4. JOHN BACON, buried at Widmerpool, 28 Mar 1597.
