Timothy Briggs 1

Timothy Briggs

TIMOTHY BRIGGS married at Halloughton, Notts., 14 Mar 1716, MARGARET WALKDEN.

He died at Southwell, Notts., 4 Jun 1774. She died there 12 Feb 1765.

Based on the names in the family, he may have been a son or grandson of James and Alice Briggs of Annesley, Notts. James and Alice Briggs had children baptized in Annesley: Samuel, 1663; Marie, 1664; Stephen, 1666; Grace, 1669; and William, 1671. Timothy, judging by his marriage date, could easily have been a son of any of the sons. Note that there was also a Timothy Briggs in Annesley at this time, who was married to Ann ___, and died in Annesley in 1723. Timothy and Ann's children, baptized at Annesley, included Elizabeth, 1694; John, 1695; and Timothy, 1703 (this younger Timothy is well accounted for -- his marriage and family are recorded in Annesley). The elder Timothy may well have also been a son of James and Alice. If so, it would be very reasonable to expect that one of James' other sons would name a child Timothy (for his brother), and that that child would name a child James (for his grandfather). At the moment, however, the only evidence of this is the similarity of names, proximity, and reasonable dates.
