Timothy Briggs 2

Timothy Briggs

TIMOTHY BRIGGS, son of James Briggs and Ann Wingfield, was baptized at Southwell, Notts., 17 Jul 1744. He was buried at St. Nicholas Church, Nottingham, 18 Sep 1782.

He married at St. Nicholas Church, Nottingham, 26 May 1776, SARAH KETTLEBAND, daughter of David Kettleband and Hannah Gregory, who was bapt. at St. Mary's, Nottingham, 12 May 1745.

He was a frameworkknitter, and lived in Nottingham.

Sarah may have been the Sarah Briggs who married, at St. Mary's, Nottingham, 21 May 1792, James Middleton. If so, she may also have been the Sarah Middleton who was buried at St. Mary's, 31 Mar 1793. Witnesses to this marriage were Robert Kirkby and John Johnson (both of whom appear to be church wardens. On the marriage record, he signed his name; Sarah signed by mark.

Another possibility: she may have been the Sarah Briggs who married William Briggs. Banns for this marriage were read 15, 22 and 29 Jun 1783 at St. Mary's, Nottingham. William and Sarah had three children baptized at St. Mary's: Joseph in 1784; Ann in 1785; and Sarah in 1787.
