THE CORNISH FAMILY OF FOLKESTONE

My great great grandmother was Sarah Ann CORNISH born in Folkestone in 1841. The Cornish family of Folkestone seems to have had its origins with Thomas CORNISH born c1650. Thomas was a native of Dover and on the 11th May 1671 he married Margaret HALL, daughter of William HALL.

Thomas became a Freeman of the township of Folkestone. An entry in the Folkestone Assembly Minute book dated 23rd June 1690 reads Thomas CORNISH (of Dover) claims freedom in right of his marriage to Margaret, daughter of William HALL. Thomas and Margaret had five children and it is from his second son John that I am descended.

I was recently contacted by David CORNISH. David is a 7x great grandson of the original Thomas. David has kindly contributed two articles relating to the CORNISH family. I hope that you enjoy them:
