HICKS

Kerry

I am searching for any information concerning Leonard Hicks Who died in Folkestone at age 47 in 1935. He had served in world war one and died from the effects of the poison gas that was used. All I know about this is that he was a Stretcher Bearer who was Mentioned in Dispatches at some stage. My grandmothers (his daughter) name is Barbara Hicks (maiden name!). She also holidayed here with her family. Barbara's mothers name was Alice Maud Cornell. She nursed Leonard Hicks through his sickness so was also living in folkestone at this time. I would love ANY information that I could get that related to them at all. I am quite desperate to find Leonard Hicks Grave. If anyone can help me with this please e-mail me at Kerry

Thank you.

HUNTER

Judith

Hi.

I have for some years been trying to trace (backwards) a branch of my family and the leads stop at Folkestone and Leybourne in Kent. Daniel Ross Hunter married, in Greenock Scotland, a Sarah Hunter from Folkestone, Kent. On her death certificate (in Australia) her parents are given as James Hunter and Mary Hodges, both of Kent. I have found a marriage for these two:

James Hunter m. Mary Hodges 26 April 1799, Folkestone, Kent on the IGI. I have also found a birth for Sarah Hunter : Sarah Hunter, chr 17 Aug 1808 Folkestone. (and some siblings I think, using the batch no. search) . I can't find where James Hunter comes from, nor his parents. Someone else in my family has Mary Hodges as the daughter of Thomas Hodges and Mary Parkes, who were married in Leybourne, Kent, in 1773. but unfortunately no source has been provided with the information.

I really want to try and find James Hunter's antecedents as well as the Hodges side. As the daughter Sarah married another Hunter in Scotland I think it possible that her father James may have originally been from there as well, and could well have been a cousin or something. Nothing has turned up in this line so far, despite lots of research by several people. But one wonders how Daniel, a wool scourer from Greenock , otherwise would have met Sarah, from Folkestone?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Judith

Roma

Hiya Folkestone Folk.

My Grandmother Kathleen Mary Gambrell was from Folkestone. Her mother was Agnes Maud ROWAN and Agnes was born to Michael Joseph ROWANand Julia DeBRUYNE. I know that the family lived at 67 Military Ave in 1903 because that is when Michael Joseph ROWANdied. Agnes and Michael (sometimes called Joseph) had other children Maud, Mabel, William, Joseph and Michael.

Does anyone have any information on the Rowan family? If so, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

Many thanks,

GOLDER

Jan Robinson

Hi

I have information that in April of 1892 permission was granted for a vault in the churchyard of the parish of Folkestone to be opened to inter the remains of the late daughter of Mr Charles Golder. Unfortunately, the photocopy I have does not give the daughters name. Does anyone have any information as to which daughter this was, or any other information on the vault (for example MIs). My gggrandmother, Susannah Golder, was a daughter of a Mr Charles Golder (I wonder if it was the same Charles Golder?).

With thanks

Jan Robinson

WADDELL FAMILY

Elaine

I am in the process of putting together a powerpoint presentation for my grandmother's 100th birthday. She was born Lily May Waddell, on May 26, 1903 in Folkestone, England. She was one of ten children born to Henry Edwin Waddell and Mary Alice Jacobs Waddell.

All of them came to the United States in 1913, except for her brother James, who stayed in England his entire life.

Granny is the only sibling left and I am happy and grateful to say that she is in very good health and still lives at home with the help of my mother.

She loves to tell stories about being a little girl in England. And in 1981 at the age of 78 wrote a book about her life.

I was just reading through your website and wondered if any readers might recognize the names. If so I would love to hear from you.

Elaine
