WILL OF RICHARD BADCOCK
1756

In the name of God Amen I Richard BADCOCK of Chalksole in the Parish OF Alkham and in the County of Kent Yeoman being sick and weak in body but of a sound and perfect mind memory and understanding God be praised do this twenty third day of August in the Year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty six make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) Item I give and devise unto my loving son William BADCOCK his Heirs and Assigns forever all and every my messuages land and tenements and hereditament whatsoever situate lying and being in the several parishes of River and Alkham or elsewhere in the County of Kent aforesaid and now or late in the several tenants or occupations of Benjamin BULLARD Richard BANKS and John BARTLETT or some or one of them their or some or one of their assigns nevertheless subject to the several mortgage securities with which my said premises are and stand respectively charged Also I give and bequeath unto my said son William BADCOCK his Executors, Administrators and Assigns for ever all and every goods chattels plate linnen (sic) rings corn grain cattle husbandry utensils and all other my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever subject nevertheless to the payment thereout of all and every my just debts funeral expenses and the charges of proving and executing this my Will and every thing incident thereto and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said son William BADCOCK sole Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all former will or wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written Richard BADCOCK by his mark Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Richard BADCOCK the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names as witnesses Robert WESTFIELD (not put) Alice NORRIS by her mark Robert AUSTIN by his mark.

WILL OF JAMES BAILEY
Dated 21 July 1907

This is the last Will and Testament of me James BAILEY of 21 Charlotte Street Folkestone Kent Bathchair?? I appoint Frederick PREBBLE of 25 Park Street Folkestone Builder Exor (sic) and Tree (sic) of this my will. I give unto David BRIZLEY of Uphill Folkestone woodman my Family Bible. ( I Give and Bequeath to the Folkestone Victoria Hospital at Folkestone the sum of five pounds crossed out). As to my Bathchair No.25 standing at Alexandra Mews Folkestone I direct my Trustee to sell the same for the best price that can be obtained for the same and add the proceeds to the rest of my personal estate. And I Give and Bequeath the same unto my said Trustee upon trust to sell and collect and get in such part thereof as may not consist of money and with and out of the money produced by such sale and collection and with ? of such part of my personal estate as shall consist of money to pay my just debts and funeral expences including the erection of a head stone to my memory with the addition of the following words "For me to live was ? a happy life" and it is my wish to be interred if possible in a grave ??????? of my dear wife in the churchyard of Paddlesworth in Kent. And I direct my said Trustee shall reimburse himself for whatever trouble and expences in conducting my funeral arrangements and whatever sum remains of the payment of all necessary and proper expences and of �5 to the Victoria Hospital Folkestone I Give and bequeath the residue unto the children of my sister Sarah MILLS or WILLS of Church Hill Shepherdswell and to the children of my brother Richard BAILEY equally between them.

WILL OF THOMAS BAKER

In the name of God Amen I Thomas BAKER the Elder of the Town of Folkestone of the County of Kent Jurat being sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding praise be to Almighty God for the same Do for avoiding all controversies and disputes between my children make publish and declare my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First and Principally I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping to obtain forgiveness of my sins and to inherit everlasting life and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as to all such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me I give devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Dorothy my best bed bedstead and furniture thereto belonging and the furniture of the best chamber and all my linen plate which I shall leave at the time of my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my three ? daughters Mary the wife of Thomas GODDEN Ann the wife of William DIXON and Elizabeth KING widow the sum of five shillings a piece of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to them by my Executors hereafter named within three months next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Susannah wife of Richard TOES the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my said executors hereafter named within three months next after my decease And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my real ready money wearing apparel household goods implements of household bedding linen brass pewter stock crop cattle corn grain hay and all and every other my estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever that I shall leave at the time of my decease or have any right or title unto I do give devise and bequeath the same unto my sons Thomas BAKER of Folkestone aforesaid Brewer and John BAKER of the same place Gentleman their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns equally to be divided between them share and share alike They paying thereof all and every my just debts funeral expenses and the charges of proving and executing this my Will And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said sons Thomas BAKER and John BAKER Executors of this my Will and this I conclude the same hereby revoking all former and other will or wills by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said Thomas BAKER the Testator have to this my said Will set and afixt my hand and seal the sixth day of August in the thirtieth year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the Second now King of Great Britain and so forth and in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty six Thomas BAKER Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us after scratching out the word "twenty" and inserting the word "fifty" between the 15th and 16th lines and inserting between the tenth and eleventh lines these following words "and furniture of my best chamber" John ELGAR Robert HOWARD John GOLDUP

Proved 13th November 1844

This is the last Will and Testament of me Susannah BAYLY of the town of Folkestone in the county of Kent Spinster I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences be first paid and subject thereto I Give and Bequeath all my wearing apparel unto my Dear sister Elizabeth the wife of William BIRD and as to all my real and all the residue and remainder of my personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind and quality soever the same may be of or in to which I or any person or persons in trust for me shall be seized or entitled at the time of my decease I do hereby Give Devise and Bequeath the same unto my dear brothers Thomas BAYLY John BAYLY Samuel BAYLY Stephen BAYLY Richard BAYLY Ebenezer BAYLY and to my said sister Elizabeth BIRD to be equally divided between and amongst them share and share alike as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and to their respective Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns And I hereby appoint the said Stephen BAYLY and Richard BAYLY joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other wills by me at any time heretofore made IN WITNESS whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament contained in one sheet of paper set my Hand and Seal this sixteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight The mark of X Susannah BAYLY Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Testatrix Susannah BAYLY as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request and in the presence of each other and in her presence have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto Richard H ? WILL OF ANN BOWES
Proved 23rd July 1757

In the Name of God Amen I Ann BOWES now wife of William BOWES of Alkham in the County of Kent Yeoman being in good health and of mind and disposing mind and memory (for which I bless God) do this tenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty nine make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner following whereas by one bond or obligation under the hand and seal of the said William BOWES bearing date the thirteenth day of July one thousand seven hundred and twenty seven made previous to my marriage with him he the said William BOWES became bonded to Richard THOMAS of Alkham aforesaid Maltster in four hundred pounds of lawful money conditioned if the marriage then intended between him the said William BOWES and me the said Ann my name then COLLAR Widow took effect and he should survive me then he the said William BOWES should permit and suffer me the said Ann by any writing or deed under my hand and seal or by my last Will and Testament or by any writing purporting my last Will and Testament to dispose of the sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money to such person or persons as I should now nominate direct and appoint by the said will deed or writing to receive the same as by the said bond relation being thereunto had may among other things at large appear now by virtue of the power and authority to me given in and by the said bond and of all other powers and authorities in any wise enabling me thereunto I the said Ann BOWES do by this my last Will and Testament or writing purporting in last will and testament by me duly Signed Sealed Published and Declared in the presence of the persons whose names are hereunto written as witnesses there to give devise and bequeath direct ? appoint and dispose of the said sum of one hundred pounds from and immediately my decease in manner following (that is to say) the sum of fifty pounds part thereof unto my daughter Ann wife of William FAGG and the sum of thirty pounds other part thereof unto my son Ambrose COLLAR and twenty shillings more thereof to my grandchildren John STOKES Richard STOKES William CLEMMENTS and Mark CLEMMENTS and five pound more thereof to my granddaughter Ann STOKES and four pound more thereof to my grandson Ambrose STOKES and five pound more thereof to my granddaughter Ann FAGG and twenty shillings residue thereof unto my granddaughter Elizabeth FAGG the said several sums so given to my said grandchildren to be paid as hereafter is mentioned (that is to say) the said several sums given to the sons and daughter of Mary to be paid to them as they shall severally attain the age of twenty one years or be married and in the case of the death of any of them before the said age or marriage the sum or sums given to him her or them so dying to be paid to such of them as shall attain the said age or marriage equally between them and in the mean time all the said several sums to be paid to my son Ambrose COLLAR for the use of them by my said grandchildren and his receipt shall be full discharge to my said husband for the value and my said son shall not be accountable in the meantime for any interest or profits thereof unless he shall think fit and as to the said two sums given to my said granddaughters Ann FAGG and Elizabeth FAGG the same shall be paid to their father the said William FAGG for their use and his receipt shall be a sufficient discharge to my said husband for the same and I do direct and appoint my said husband to pay the said sum of one hundred pounds in manner and according to the disposition aforesaid and so appoint my said son Ambrose COLLAR Executor of this my Will and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament reserving nevertheless to myself full power to revoke and alter the same as I shall think fit In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year first above written Ann BOWES This writing was signed and sealed by the said Ann BOWES and by her published and declared as and for the last Will and Testament in the presence of us Daniel SUTTON William LANE

In the Name of God Amen I Mary CLARKE of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent Widow and relict of John CLARKE late of the same place fisherman deceased being in good health and of sound and perfect mind and memory (praised be God for same) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following (that is to say) Firstly and principally I commend my soul to mercy Almighty God my Creator hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to have full and free pardon of all my sins and offenses and to inherit everlasting life and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred with Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as touching such worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me I give and devise unto my daughter Sarah KENNETT the widow and relict of William KENNETT deceased all those my three messuages and tenements with the yards gardens and backsides thereunto respectively belonging with their and every of their appurtenances ���situated lying and together being and adjoining in the town of Folkestone aforesaid at of near a certain place called Froghole and now or late in the several tenures of William HEADAWAY Mary HALL widow and Edmund WARMAN or of some or one of them their or some or one of their assign or assigns to hold the same unto the said Sarah KENNETT and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life She and they during that time keeping the same in good tenable repair and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise the said three messuages and tenements and premises with the appurt (Sic) unto my four daughters Mary the wife of James OLDFIELD Susannah late wife of George STANNARD Ruth the wife of the said Edmund WARMAN and Hannah the wife of George MAJOR their heirs and assigns forever equally to be divided between them share and share alike to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants Item I give and bequeath unto my said daughter all and every my goods and chattels and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature and kind soever after all my just debts and funeral expenses and the charges of proving and executing this my last Will and Testament shall be first fully paid and satisfied thereof to hold possess and enjoy the same unto my said daughter Sarah KENNETT her heirs executors administrators and assigns forever Item I do hereby make ordain nominate and appoint my said daughter Sarah KENNETT sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills by me heretofore made and do declare this to be and contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Mary CLARKE the Testator have to this one sheet of paper set and put my hand and seal dated this sixth day in May in the nineteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty six The mark of Mary CLARKE Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Mary CLARKE the Testator to be and contain her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in the said Testrixes presence and at her request have subscribed our names hereunto as witnesses Jonathan LADE Sarah LADE Richard SLODDEN

In the name of God Amen I Thomas COOMBS of the parish of Folkestone of the County of Kent Yeoman being in good health of body (and of sound and perfect mind and memory God ber praised for the same) but considering the uncertainty of this life do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and Principally I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping and assuredly trusting by and thro (sic) the alone merits and mediation of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and offences and to inherit eternal happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven and as to that Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give and dispose thereof unto my beloved wife Mary All that my messuages and tenements with the outhouses edifices buildings and the piece of land thereunto belonging or therewith now or late used and enjyed with the appurtenances situate lying and being in the parish of Kennington in the said County of Kent and now or late in the tenure or occupation of John GODDEN or his assigns to hold the same unto my said wife Mary and her assigns for and during the full end and term of her natural life she keeping the same in good and tenable repair and from and immediately after her decease Give and Devise the said messuages land and premises with the appurtenances before mentioned unto my nephew Robert COOMBS (son of my late brother Robert COOMBS) and to his heirs forever Also I give and bequeath unto my nephew William COOMBS of the parish of Wlatham in the said county Yeoman and John COOMBS of the same place Maltman Richard STICKES of Hastingleigh in the said county Yeoman Thomas COOMBS of the city of Canterbury Husbandman and John COOMBS and Robert COOMBS (sons of my said brother Robert COOMBS) and William PILCHER and Elizabeth PILCHER the children of Thomas PILCHER of Dellingore in the parish of Alkham Yeoman nd to each and every one of them the sum of twenty shillings apiece of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to them by my Executrix herein after named within twelve months next after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Folkestone aforesaid one seam (?) of wheat to be distributed at the discretion of my Executrix within a fortnight after the day of my burial And all the rest and residue of my estate �.not herein before disposed of after all my just debts legacies funeral expences the charges of proving this my last Will and Testament and other incident charges shall be first fully satisfied contented and paid I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said beloved wife Mary her Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever And lastly I do hereby make ordain nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Mary sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills and declaring this to be the last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set and subscribed my hand and seal the fourteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty six Thos. WILL OF THOMAS COOPER
Proved 27th May 1844

This is the Will of Thomas COOPER of Sandgate in the parish of Cheriton and County of Kent Surveyor and Builder I dispose of all my Estates and Hereditaments whether Freehold Copyhold or Leasehold as follows that is to say I desire and in exercise of my power enabling me in this behalf appoint all that my messuage or Tenement No 1 Prospect Place Sandgate aforesaid and the ground in front of the same now in my own occupation and the land or ground in the rear of the said messuage or Tenement and divided from the same by a road or way and extending from the fence or paling on the South up to the Boundary wall there on the North and divided from the other land or ground by a quickset fence and a low brick wall and the brick stable and all other the Buildings and Erections of every description upon the same land or ground now also in my own occupation unto and to the use of my daughter Charlotte COOPER her Heirs and Assigns for ever exonerated or to be exonerated from any mortgage or other charge which may affect the same at my death but if my said daughter Charlotte COOPER shall die without having been married or having been married without having any child who being a son shall attain the age of twenty on years or being a daughter shall attain that age or be married then and therefore I devise the said messuage land and hereditaments in manner hereinafter mentioned and I devise all other any messuages or tenements and Hereditament in Prospect Place aforesaid and the ground in front and rear of same the said ground in rear thereof being as aforesaid divided from the ground herein devised to my said daughter Charlotte by the aforesaid quickset fence and low brick wall and all other my hereditaments and estate not herein devised to my said daughter Charlotte and also if she my said daughter Charlotte shall die without having been married or having been married without having any such child as aforesaid then also the hereditaments hereinbefore devised to her unto and to the use of my sons George COOPER Charles COOPER John COOPER and Edward COOPER and my daughters Maria the wife of (blank) MOCKETT and Harriet the wife of James BUTLER in equal shares as Tenants in common forever and I dispose of all my personal estate as follows that is to say bequeath all the household goods and furniture plate and plated articles books pictures prints household linen china glass wines spirits and liquors and all other my household effects whatsoever which shall be in or about my said messuage or tenement No 1 Prospect Place aforesaid and all the ready money in the said messuage or tenement at the time of my death exempt or to be exonerated from all my mortgage and other debts and funeral and testamentary expenses and the Legacy hereinafter bequeathed, unto my said daughter Charlotte COOPER her executors administrators and assigns absolutely and subject exclusively to the payment of my mortgage and other debts and funeral and testamentary expeses and of the Legacy hereinafter bequeathed I give all the residue of my personal estate and effects of every description unto my said sons George COOPER Charles COOPER John COOPER and Edward COOPER and my said daughters Maria the wife of (blank) MOCKETT Harriet the wife of James BUTLER and Charlotte COOPER in equal shares as Tenants in common and their perspective Executors administrators and assigns And I bequeath unto my granddaughter Maria the eldest daughter of my said son Edward COOPER the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid to her if and when she shall attain the age of twenty one years or be married but without interest in the meantime And I charge all the said residue of my personal estate and if the same shall be insufficient for the purpose then all my hereditaments and real estate not hereinafore devised to my said daughter Charlotte with the payment of the said Legacy but if my said granddaughter shall die under the age of twenty one years and without having been married then I declare that the said Legacy to her shall not take effect but be void And I further declare that the shares hereinbefore devised to such of my said daughters as shall be under Coverture at my death of my said real and personal Estate shall be for their respective sole use and benefit and at their respective free and absolute disposal in like manner in all respects as if they were sole and unmarried it being my Will that the same shall not be subject to debts interference controwl (sic) or engagements of their Husbands respecitvely And I appoint my said daughter Charlotte COOPER and my said son George COOPER Trustees and Executors of this my will And I declare that neither of them shall be answerable for the other of them or the acts deeds or defaults of the other of them or for involuntary losses or money received under receipts in which they shall join for conformity only and that it shall be lawful for them respectively not? This is the last Will and Testament of me Susanna CULLEN of the town of Folkestone in the County of Kent Widow of sound mind and understanding I desire to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto my only surviving Daughter and Child Ann CULLEN of the said town Spinster now living with me all and every my part and share and parts and shares of and in All and every the Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and premises situate lying and being in the said town of Folkestone or elsewhere and all other Messuages Lands Tenements and hereditaments descended unto me as one of the surviving children of my deceased Father John FULLER formerly of this town Carpenter and all other my real and personal estate whatsoever of which I shall be in any manner entitled unto at the time of my decease and also all my household furniture plate linen and china of every description To hold the same and every part and parts thereof unto my said Daughter Ann CULLEN her heirs and assigns to and for the only proper use benefit disposition and behoof of my said Daughter Ann CULLEN her heirs and assigns for ever And also I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said daughter Ann CULLEN whole and sole Executrix of this my will hereby revoking all other wills by me at any time heretofore and do declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Susanna the Testatrix have to this my said will contained in this one sheet of paper set and put my hand and seal the twelfth day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty three Susanna CULLEN seal Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testatrix Susanna CULLEN as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses to the same and the said Testatrix was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing her will Hannah CULLEN Susanna CULLEN Jnr Mary FAGG

In the Name of God Amen I Benjamin CURRY the Elder of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent fisherman being aged and infirm of body of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding God be praised for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following (that is to say) First I commend my soul to Almighty God my Heavenly Father hoping and assuredly trusting to obtain mercy and forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life to ? through the ? merits and mediation of Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as ? such worldly estate as the Lord in mercy hath lent me I bequeath and dispose thereof as followeth Imprimus I give and bequeath unto my nephew John CURRY of the said Town of Folkestone all my nets ropes thirty pieces of mackerel nets fitted for sea four pieces of flue? Nets one sprat net five prove barrels one ? of our one hundred weight of cork also I give and bequeath unto my said nephew John CURRY my largest chest of drawers my great looking glass one large pottage pot my best suit of wearing cloaths my large sauce pan and the two small ones likewise all my pewter in the closet likewise my old chest in the garrett and china bowl in the same chest to hold the same and every part thereof until my said nephew John CURRY his heirs or assigns as soon as possible after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my other nephew Benjamin CURRY of the said Town of Folkestone fisherman all of my sea cloaths eight pieces of mackerel nets now fit for sea and half my Body linen and the other half of my said linen I give unto his brother John CURRY above named to be equally divided between them after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my niece Ann CURRY my best bed three pillows three pairs of sheets two blankets and the quilt belonging (the bedstead and hangings excepted) Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah now wife of Robert HARRISON of the said town of Folkestone fisherman my lesser chest of draws likewise my copper my bed I the garrett my clock and my late wife's best gown to hold the same and every part thereof unto my said daughter Sarah HARRISON her heirs or assigns immediately after my decease and at the same time I likewise give and bequeath unto my said daughter Sarah HARRISON my two large old tables in the garrett as they now stand Item I give and bequeath unto my niece Sarah now the wife of John WHITTINGHAM of the said town of Folkestone fisherman one callicoe gown and coat to be delivered unto my said niece by my Executor immediately after my decease Lastly I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint my said nephew John CURRY whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and hereby requiring him my said Executor to pay of all my just debts funeral expenses and the probate of this my last Will and Testament shall be fully paid and satisfied then my will is that my said Executor shall possess and enjoy all and every part of what I have before given and bequeathed unto him for the future use of him his heirs and assigns Also at the same time I give and bequeath unto my said Executor my four pieces of flue? nets to be taken into his possession at the same time the other effects are that I have before given and bequeathed unto him and I hereby declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament comprehended in these two sheets of paper together annexed In Witness whereof I the said Benjamin CURRY the Elder the Testator to the first sheet thereof set my hand and to this second and last sheet thereof my hand and seal this sixth day of February in the thirtieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty seven Benjamin CURRY Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Benjamin CURRY the Elder the Testator to be and contain his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in the said Testator's presence and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses Plummer SANDFORD John MARSH Jonathan(?) I John ELGAR of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent Gentleman do hereby revoke all Wills Codicils and Testamentary dispositions herebefore made by me and declare this to be my last will and testament - I appoint my dear wife Alice and my Friend James REYNOLDS of the town of Folkestone aforesaid linen Draper and my Brother in Law James JEFFERY of Beer Farm in the Parish of St Margarets near Dover in the said County Farmer Executrix and Executors of this my Will and I also appoint my said wife during her widowhood and the said James REYNOLDS and James JEFFERY Guardians of my children during their minority I Give and Bequeath unto my said wife Alice all the household goods furniture books pictures prints plate linen china glass wine liquors housekeeping stores and provisions and other moveable effects of a like nature for her own absolute use and benefit I give and devise all the real estate vested in me as mortgage or Trustee unto the said James REYNOLDS and James JEFFERY and their Heirs and Assigns subject to the equities and trusts affecting the same I give and devise all my freehold and copyhold messuages lands tenements hereditaments and real estate whatsoever and wheresoever in possession reversion remainder or expectancy with their appurtenance (except mortgage and trust estates) unto and to the use of the said James REYNOLDS and James JEFFERY their Heirs and Assigns Upon trist that they the said James REYNOLDS and James JEFFERY or the survivor of them or the Heirs of such survivor their or his assigns or other the trustees or trustee of this my Will for the time being do and shall sell the same messuages or tenements lands and hereditaments together or in parcels by public auction or private contract at such place or places time or times and subject to such special or other stipulations relative to the title or the evidence of title or the manner and costs investigating such title on the payment of the purchase money or to any other matter connected with the Sale as my Trustees or Trustee for the time being shall think fit or as their or his Counsel shall advise with full discretion and authority to sell either subject to or discharged from or with an indemnity ( by impounding part of the purchase money or otherwise) against incumberances and also to fix a reserved bidding and buy in any lot or lots at any auction and to second or vary the terms or any contract without being liable for any consequent loss And also to execute such instruments and assurances as shall be thought requisite for effecting and completing any such sale And also do and shall if they or he shall think fit raise money upon mortgage of my said Estates or any of them until the same shall be sold And also do and shall if they or he shall think fit previously to any such sale as aforesaid of any hereditaments whereof an undivided share is hereby devised make partition of such hereditament with liberty to give and pay out of any trust monies which shall come to their or his hands under this my will to accept any sum or sums of money for equality of partition and to execute such instruments and assurances as shall be thought requisite for effectuation and completing any such partition And I direct that the monies to arise from any such sale mortgage or partition shall be received by my said trustees or trustee for the time being and be applied in the manner hereafter expressed And I declare that my said trustees or trustee for the time being shall be at liberty to postpone the sale of my said hereditaments and Estate or any of them until the produce shall become distributable among my children under the trusts hereinafter contained or for any shorter period if such postponement shall appear to them to be advantageous and during the suspense of the sale thereof to let the same from year to year or for any term not exceeding seven(?) years in possession of ? rent and their or his option to take possession thereof and to manage and improve the same and for that purpose to employ Agents bailiffs and Servants and expend a comp? part of my trust monies And I declare that notwithstanding the postponment of the Sale of my real estates or any of them the same shall for the purposes of enjoyment and ? be considered in equity as ? into? From the time of my decease And I give and Bequeath unto the said James REYNOLDS And James JEFFERY their Executors Administrators and Assigns the residue of my personal Estate upon trust that they the said trustees hereby named or the survivor or their or his assigns or other the trustees or trustee of this my will for the time being do and shall as soon after my decease as they or he shall think expedient call in dispose of and convert the same into money and to receive the money to arise therefrom And I do hereby declare that my trustees or trustee or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my will shall stand and be possessed of the money to arise from my residuary personal estate and also of the money to arise from the sale mortgage or partition of my freehold copyhold and real estate Upon trust that they the said trustees or trustee for the time being do and shall with and out of the said monies pay satisfy and discharge all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences and the Legacies which I shall by this my Will or my Codicil hereto bequeath and do and shall invest the residue of the said monies after answering the purposes aforesaid intheir or his names or name in the parlimentary funds of Great Britain or in Government or real securities in England and from time to time alter vary and transpose the said trust monies or any part thereof for into or upon other funds and securities of the like nature at their or his discretion And I do hereby declare that the said Trustees or Trustee for the time being shall stand possessed of the said trust monies funds and securities and the interests dividends and annual produce thereof Upon and for the trusts intents and purposes hereinafter declared concerning the same that is to say Upon trust to pay the interest dividends and annual produce of the said trust monies funds and securities unto or permit the same to be received by my said dear wife Alice during her life that she shall so long continue my Widow And from and after the decease or marriage of my said wife I direct that the said Trustees and Trustee for the time being shall stand possessed of the said trust monies funds and securities and the interest dividends and annual produce thereof Upon trust for the absolute use of my child if only one or all my children equally if more than one who being a son or sons shall attain the age of twenty one years or being a daughter or daughters shall attain that age or marry provided always and I do hereby declare that after the decease or marriage of my said wife and during such time as my said children or any of them being a son or sons shall be under the age of twenty one years or being a daughter or daughters shall be under that age and unmarried the said trustees or trustee for the time being shall appropriate all or a compitent part of the Interest dividends and annual produce of the share to which each such Child shall be for the time being entitled under the trusts hereinbefore contained for or towards his or her maintenance education advancement accumulating the unapplied income and adding the accumulation to the same share. Provided also and I do hereby further declare that it shall be lawful for the trustees or trustee for the time being at any time or times during the life and widowhood of my said wife with her consent and after her decease or marriage at their or his discretion to raise and apply the whole or any part of the share to which each such child shall for the time being be entitled under the trusts hereinbefore contained for or towards his or her better education preferment advancement or benefit And I hereby declare declare that the receipts of my said Trsutees or Trustess for the time being for any money payable to them to them or him by virtue of this my Will shall effectually discharge the person or persons paying the same from being a ? or accountable for the misapplication or non application thereof or from being obliged to see to the application thereof or to enquire into the necessity or propriety of any sale that may be made under or by virtue of this my will Provided also and I do further declare that if my said trustees or either of them or any person or persons to be appointed under this clause shall die or be unwilling or incompetent to execute the trusts of my will it shall be lawful for the competent Trustees or Trustee for the time being (if any whether retiring from office of Trustee or not if none) for the Executors or Administrators of the last surviving trustee to substitute by any writing under their his or her hands or hand any fit person or persons in which and in whose Heirs Executors or Administrators alone (or as the case may be) jointly with the surviving or continuing trustees or trustee and their or his Executors and Administrators my ? estates shall be vested And I hereby lastly declare that my present and future trustee of my will shall not be accountable for more money than hee or she shall actuallly receive and any one of my said trustees or trustee for the time being shall not be ?responsible? for the others or other of them or for the signing receipts fpr the sake of conformity or for any involuntary losses and that it shall be lawful for them him and her out of the monies which shall come to their his or her hands or hand respectfully to reimburse themselves himself and herself and their his or her co trustees and co trustee their his and her costs charges and expences in discharging and performing the several trusts powers and authorities hereby respectfully re???? In the Name of God Amen I Robert ELGAR of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent Collarmaker being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind memory and understanding ( God be praised for the same) and considering the uncertainty of this life do make and ordain this my last Will and Testamony in manner and form following (that is to say) Whereas I have lately surrendered unto the Hands of the Lord of the Manor of Folkestone aforesaid by the hands and acceptance of his steward thereof all my copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments with their appurtenances situate laying and being in the town of Folkestone aforesaid to the use of such person or persons and for such estate or estates as I shall in and by my last Will and Testament in writing under my hand and seal ? ? and appoint now I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Deborah all and every my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever both freehold and copyhold with their and every of their appurtenances and also all and every of my goods and chattels and household stuff stock in trade debts credits and all other my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever to hold the same unto my said wife Deborah her heirs executors administrators and assigns forever upon this special trust and confidence nevertheless in her reposed that she my said wife Debrah shall and may as soon after my decease conveniently may be sell and dispose of all or part of my said freehold or copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments and premises or take up any sum or sums of money on the same premises by mortgage or otherwise to any person or persons she shall think proper and by and out of the monies arising by the sale or mortgage as aforesaid she my said wife Deborah shall and do pay of and discharge all my debts that I shall owe at the time of my decease on mortgages lands bills notes or otherwise and all or whatsoever of my said freehold or copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments and personal estate that shall be left and remain unsold after the payment of all my debts as aforesaid unto and among all and every my nine children as well daughters as sons forever equally to be divided between them share and share alike to take as tenants in common not as joint tenants But in case my said wife Deborah shall happen to depart this life before my youngest daughter shall attain the age of twenty one years and before all my just debts shall be fully satisfied and paid as aforesaid then and in such case I give devise and bequeath such of my said freehold and copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments and personal estate that shall be so left and remain unsold as aforesaid unto my five sons John ELGAR Thomas ELGAR Joseph ELGAR William ELGAR and Richard ELGAR their Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever upon this special trust and confidence nevertheless in them reposed that they or the survivors of them shall and do as soon after the decease of my said wife Deborah for the purpose conveniently may be sell and dispose of all or any part of my said freehold or copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments and personal estate that shall then remain unsold by my said wife Deborah for the purpose aforesaid in the same manner as she was empowered to do and by and out of the monies arising by such sale to satisfy and pay all my just debts that shall remain unpaid as aforesaid and all such of my said freehold and copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments and premises that shall then remain and be left unsold after the payment of all my just debts that I shall owe mortgages bonds bills notes or otherwise I give devise and bequeath the same unto and amongst all and every my nine children as well daughters as sons for ever equally to be divided between them share and share alike to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and in case other or any of my said nine children shall happen to depart this life before he she or they shall attain the age of twenty one years and leave no lawful issue then I give the part and shares of him her or them so dying equally to be divided amongst the survivors share and share alike and also I do hereby make ordain nominate constitute and appoint my said beloved wife Deborah sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made and do declare this to be and contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament contained in these two sheets of paper together annexed to the first sheet thereof have set my hand and seal dated this eighteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty five Robert ELGAR Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Robert ELGAR the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscrbed our names as witnesses hereto John ELGAR Thomas ELGAR Isaac JORDAN

In the Name of God Amen I Edward ESTWICK son of Francis of the town of Folkestone in the county of Kent fisherman being infirm of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be Almighty God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First and principally I recommend my soul to the mercy of Almighty God my Creator hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to have forgiveness of all my sins and to Inherit Eternal Life and my body I will to be interred with Christian burial at the discretion of my executors herein after named and as to my worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I dispose of the same as followith that is to say I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my loving wife the house in which I now dwell in and that part of the malt house that I bought of my brother Thomas provisions and the ? ? or household goods if used ? mortgage or sell if occasion that she required it to bring up her children if I shall do other wise than well or should be took in a ?? or if no? I desire that my worldly estate be divided amongst my children as my wife thinks proper to give each of them where ? requires most after my decease according to her ? mind and will. In the Name of God Amen I Katherine FEARNE of Folkestone in the County of Kent Widow of Francis FEARNE late of Folkestone aforesaid Carpenter deceased being in perfect health and of a sound and perfect mind and memory (praise be to God) but calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life Do make and ordain this my will in the manner following (that is to say) First I recommend my soul to the Hands of Almighty God who gave it hoping for forgiveness of all my sins and my body to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executors herein after named and as to the Real and Personal estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and dispose of the same as follows First I give and bequeath unto Frances JORDAN and Katherine JORDAN (the two daughters of John JORDAN of Folkestone aforesaid surgeon and Frances his wife all that messuages or tenements garden yard backside and ground thereunto belonging and therewith now or late occupied or enjoyed with their appurtenances situated lying and being in the township of Folkestone at or near unto a certain place there now or late or formerly called or known by the name of Broadstone which said messuages or tenements was purchased by me the sad Katherine FEARNE and my late husband Francis FEARNE aforesaid deceased before our intermarriage and to our Heirs and Assigns forever of Jacob Des BOUVERIE Esq by indice(?) of feoffment bearing the date the tenth day of April one thousand seven hundred and twenty one to hold the said messuages or tenements and premises unto the said Frances JORDAN and Katherine JORDAN (the two daughters of the said John JORDAN and Frances his wife as aforesaid) and to their heirs and assigns for ever equally to be divided between them and to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants to have take and enjoy the same from and immediately after my decease which said messuages or tenements hath been lately divided into three dwellings and is now in the several tenures or occupations of Robert CRUMP Thomas ELGAR and myself and was formerly in the tenure or occupation of myself and Henry FOX Item I give and devise unto the before named John JORDAN All that messuages or tenements lately erected with the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate and being in the Town of Folkestone aforesaid now or late in the tenure of occupation of Robert JOHNCOCK or his assigns To hold to him the said John JORDAN his heirs and assigns for ever from and immediately after my decease Item (after all my just debts, funeral expences and the cots of proving this my will and other incident charges are fully satisfied and paid) I give and bequeath unto the before mentioned Frances JORDAN and Katherine JORDAN share and share alike all my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what kind or quality soever Item I give and bequeath unto Daniel SLAUGHTER the Elder of Folkestone aforesaid mariner Ann TAYLOR of Newington in the said County Widow Mary MUTTON daughter of the before named Daniel SLAUGHTER Matthew KNOTT of the city of Canterbury Carpenter Elizabeth GILBEE daughter of John RAMSEY of Folkestone aforesaid Mariner Francs FEARNE the Younger of the same place Mariner and John POLHILL of Folkestone aforesaid Joiner the sum of one guinea each to be paid to them by my Executors hereinafter named within three months after my decease And lastly I constitute and appoint the before mentioned John JORDAN and Frances his wife joint Executors of this my will hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me made and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Frances (sic) FEARNE the Testatrix to this my will contained in these two sheets of paper (together annexed to the first ) have set my hand and to the second my hand and seal dated this twenty sixth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty eight Katherine FEARNE Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Frances (sic) FEARNE the Testatrix for and as her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and at her request have subscribed our names as witnesses hereunto Anna SAMPSON William KENNETT Jno ROLFE

In the Name of God Amen I Hannah Fennell of the Town of Folkestone in the County of Kent Widow being aged and infirm but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding praised be Almighty God for the same do for avoiding all controversies after my decease make publish and declare my last Will and Testament in manner and form following Imprimus I recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God hoping to obtain forgiveness of my sins and inherit everlasting life and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as to all that worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me I give devise and bequeath the same in the manner and form following (that is to say) Whereas I have this day surrendered unto the hands of the Right Honourable Lord Viscount Folkestone Lord of the Manor of Folkestone aforesaid all that my copyhold messuages or tenements now in my own occupation and all other my copyhold messuages or tenements parts and shares of messuages or tenements lands grounds and premises lying within the said manor to the use and behoof of such person or persons and for such estate and estates uses intents and purposes as I shall in and by my last Will and Testament nominate direct give and appoint as by the said surrender ? now I do hereby give devise and bequeath the said messuages or tenements now in my own occupation and also all and every other my messuages or tenements lands grounds and premises both copyhold and freehold as also all and every my household goods implements of household bedding linen plate monies securities for monies and also all and every other my estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever that I shall leave at the time of my decease or have any right or title unto my son William JOHNSON (in case he shall now be living) and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life in and from and after the decease of my said son William JOHNSON then I give devise and bequeath all and every my said messuages or tenements and other my estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature and kind so ever that I shall leave at the time of my decease unto my fried Richard of Folkestone aforesaid salesman his heirs executors administrators and assigns for all and ever and I do hereby charge and make liable all and every my said estate both real and personal with the true and just payment of all and every my debts which I shall owe on mortgages bonds or otherwise at the time of my decease and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Richard TOES full and sole Executor of this my said Will and thus I conclude the same here by revoking all former and other will or wills by me hereto for made In Witness whereof I the said Hannah FENNELL the Testator have to this my said Will contained in two sheets of paper to the first sheet thereof set my hand and to this last my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty six Hannah FENNELL by her mark Signed Sealed Delivered Published and Declared by the said Testator as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us John ELGAR Luke GILBEE Mary BATEMAN wife of Stephen BATEMAN by her mark Sampson FARBRACE (?)

WILL OF JOHN FRYER
Proved 6th May 1755

In the Name of God Amen I John FRYER of the parish of Hawkinge in the county of Kent husbandman being well stricken in age but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) Firstly and principally I commit my soul to the mercies of Almighty God hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to have forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit Eternal Life my body I commit to the earth to be interred by Christian burial at the discretion of my Executrix herein after named Item I give and devise unto my son John FRYER of the Parish of Wingham in Kent aforesaid husbandman all that my dwelling house barn out house (?) yard orchard and three acres of land thereunto adjoining lying or being in the parish of Hawkinge aforesaid and also half an acre of land in the parish of Alkham in Kent aforesaid all which said premises are now in my own occupation Eshold(?) the said dwelling house barn out housen(?) yard orchard lands and premises with all and every appurtenances unto my said son John FRYER his heirs and assigns forever Also I give and bequeath unto my said son John FRYER all my working tools ladders and implements of husbandry and all wearing apparel both woollen and linen and all sums of money which at any times I have lent my said son John or not of hand or otherwise and all my fruit and all my wood and hay and feeding for cattle and alos I give and bequeath my clock unto my said son John for and during his natural life and from and immediately after his decease I give and bequeath my said clock unto my grandson John FRYER Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law John SCRIDER one shilling to be paid him by my son John FRYER on demand Item all the rest residue and remainder of my cash goods chattels and personal estate of what kind and nature not herein before given I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my Daughter Sarah the wife of William CASTLE of the parish of Folkestone in Kent aforesaid She my said daughter paying out of the same all my just debts funeral expenses and the charge of proving this my Will and Testament and lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my said daughter Sarah sole Executrix of this my Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me hereto fore made and do declare this to be my last Will and Testament contained in this one sheet of paper In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty John FRYER by his mark Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the above named John FRYER to be his Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator Susanna TOES Ruth HAWKINGS Richard TOES (and all my fruit and wood and hay and feeding for cattle word outerlined after the line before the signing and sealing thereof.

I John FRYER of the parish of Hawkinge in the county of Kent this seventeenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and fifty make and publish this codicil to my Will and Testament in manner and form following ( that is to say) I give unto my son John FRYER my brewing vessels and whereas in and by my Will and Testament I have given unto my son John FRYER his heirs executors administrators and assigns all my house and lands I do hereby order and declare that my will is that my said son shall have the said house an d land but for his life without any power to sell or mortgage and that from and immediately after the decease of my said son John FRYER I give and devise my house and lands unto my grandson John FRYER his executors administrators and assigns and whereas in and by my said last Will and Testament I have given to my daughter Sarah the wife of William CASTEL all the rest of my personal estate not herein before given she paying out of the same as therein mentioned my will further is that my said daughter Sarah shall also pay tew (?) a year for five years for and towards paying for schooling of the children of my son John FRYER In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above said John FRYER as a codicil to be annexed to this Will and Testament in the presence of John WILLOW Susanna TOES Richard TOES
