In the name of God Amen: the twentith daye of Januarye in the yeare of the rayne of our Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of god of England Scotland Ffrance and Ireland defender of the faith ect vizt of England, Ffrance and Ireland the sixth and of Scotland the xliiijth and in the yeare of our lord god 1610 I Thomas FFORDE of Dorchester in the Countie of Dorset merchant being weak in body but of perfect memorie thankes be given to almighty god Doe make this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge vizt

Ffirst I give and bequeath my soule unto almighty god my maker and to Jesus Christ my onlye Redeemer by whose death and passion I hope to be saved

    And my body to be buried in the church of St Peters in Dorchester unto which church I give xs (10 shillings)

Item: I give unto the church of Holy Trinitie in Dorchester vs (5 shillings)

    And to the church of All Saints in Dorchester vs (5 shillings)

Item: I give unto the poore of Dorchester xxxs (30 shillings)

Item: I give unto the Alms people of Dorchester xs (10 shillings)

Item: I give unto my Sister Syssell BISHOPE of Blandford tenne pounds to be equally devided betweene thee and her children nowe lyvinge

Item: I give unto my (unto my) sister Edith TAPPE and her children nowe lyvinge Tenn pounds to be equally devided betweene them

Item: I give unto my sister Joane PENNYES and her children nowe lyvinge Tenn pounds to be equally devided betweene them

    All wth (which) moneys my said three sisters to receive vizt for them and their children xli (£10) a pece (piece meaning each) and to devide it betweene them and their children

Item: I give to my brother John FFORD five poundes and all my clothes

Item: I give to the widdowe COMFREY Thirtie shillings and unto her daughter Ann borne of her bodye xxxs (30 shillings)

Item: I give unto her daughter in lawe Ann COMFREY xs (10 shillings) and unto her daughter Jeneferye and her sonne Robert vs (5 shillings) to each of them

Item: I give unto my god daughter Agnes HAYNE twenty shillings

Item: I give unto my god sonne Thomas EVERED five shillings

Item: I give unto Walter GOULDE xxs (20 shillings)

Item: I give unto William JOLYFF xxs (20 shillings)

    All wth (which) moneys my sayd legacies given and bequeathed I doe ordaine and appoynt by this my last will and testament to be satisfied contented and payde wthin twelve monthes next after the daye of my departure out of this lyfe

All the Rest of my goods and chattells moveable and unmovable not given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my well beloved nephew Thomas FFORDE sonne unto my same brother John FFORDE whome I make and ordaine my whole executor of this my last will and testament

    And I doe appoynte and request my lovinge friends Walter GOULDE and William JOLYFF to be overseers of this my last will and testament to see it performed accordinge my trewe meaninge, made and delivered the daye and yeare above named in the presence of Bynie Thomas FFORDE the elder, Robert FFOYE, William JOLYFF

Probate:- This written testament was proved at London before the honourable John BENET Doctor at Law of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury the 8th day in the month of May in thye year of our lord 1616 when administration of his estate was granted to Thomas FORDE executor named in the testament
Genealogical Notes:-

(1). The parish Registers for St Peters have not survived for this period but I have made an entry in the burial register to link to this will.

(2) The beneficiary under this will Thomas Ford (1588-1676) is thought to have emigrated to to New England in 1630. Link to more information.
