Dear Wilma,

Here are some papers and notes which I promised you. I seemed to be quite busy this time twenty years ago researching in Philadelphia.

As to cemeteries, there are three separate cemeteries:

Presbyterian
Cedar
Trinity at Oxford

The majority will be, I mean of Foulkrod's, will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery because that was a large rural cemetery started in the early 19th century.

The Presbyterian Cemetery will contain those Foulkrods who might have married reformed or presbyterian spouses and converted to a calvinist doctrine.

There are some cemetery lists at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, 1300 Locust, Philadelphia. You, or any other Foulkrod researcher will find plenty there if in transcriptions of records alone.

The inventories and wills which are not in my "line" come from Philadelphia County Register of Wills. There are interesting social documents. And then there is that James Mease book, a guide to Philadelphia as it was in 1810 which includes a Jacob Foulkrod among the list of subscribers. Mease can be found in the Dictionary of American Biography. His book of Philadelphia, is in reprint from the Arno Press.

Is there any further information on the descendants of Jacob Foulkrod and Mary Bauderman? I am sometimes in touch with my Brick and Lippincott cousins from Unruh connections.

There was an indication on the search engine that there was Jacob website, but the screen indicates that it had been discontinued, and I think it was connected to the FRG.

It was delightful to speak with you, and I am amazed at how much work you all undertake. I look forward to checking out the Foulkrod Main Page for updates.

By-the-by, I am frustrated with e-mail and find that I will have to delay experimenting with it for at least six weeks at some new address.

Sincerely yours,

 Carsten Johnson

MRS. MARY PLEASANTS
Illinois Woman Knew Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas

Special to The New York Times (July 28, 1941, p. 31)

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill., July 28--Mrs. Mary Ellen Fifield Pleasants, who knew Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas in ther circuit-riding days, died in the home of her grandson here today.

She was born ninety-one years ago in Metamora, where her father was a physician and was reared by an uncle. Thomas MarCord of near Roannoke, where Lincoln and Douglas frequently stopped to eat when they were rival attorneys and political candidates. She often said Lincoln told her she made the best biscuits he ever tasted. She recalled that she was queen of an old-time torchlight political rally for Lincoln at Metamore during his Presidential campaign.

She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Barracks and a grandson.
