WILL RECORD

Last will and testament of Frederick Groves

I Frederick Groves of Vigo county Indiana being at this time of good health and sound mind memory and understanding do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament.

First -- I give and direct that my executors hereafter named shall within three months after my decease if called on within that time or whenever thereafter called on, pay to, Michael Groves, Samuel Groves,David Groves, Hugh Groves, Benjamin Groves,William Groves,Nancy Priest, Mary McMain, Margaret Goddard, Freelove Moore, Susan Edwards, Ursula Vermillion,and Lydia Holmes each one dollar.

Second -- I give and bequeth to my sons George Groves and Perry Groves, to be held and owned jointly by them all my real and personal estate, my real estate consisting of one hundred and forty acres of land in the north east quarter of Section number Eight in township number thirteen north of range number nine west, of Vigo county Indiana,my personal estate will consist of whatever may be owned by me and money on hand at the time of my decease.

Third -- In the event that my wife Polly should survive at my decease, I direct and will that she take under and whatever amount she may be entitled to by virtue of the laws that may be in force at the time of my decease.

Fourth -- I hereby constitute and appoint my sons George Groves and Perry Groves my executors hereof and hereby direct that no proceedings be had in court in the settlement of my estate. In witness whereof I Frederick Groves have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal, this twenty fourth day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three.

I happened on to this at the Vigo county library on 3-13-2000 It brings up more names and possibilities...

Michael Groves-- I have suspicioned for some time he might be a son, he was bondsman for someone in the family also I believe his birth date is the same as Samuels (my wife suggested possible twins) Michaels name cropped up several times in Mrs. Stockdale research of Fleming county KY.

Margaret Goddard--The name sounds familar but I can't place it right now..

Susan Edwards, Ursula Vermillion and Lydia Holmes are probably on down in the second family.

George and Perry are buried in Vigo county and will be fairly close for further research. Anyone wanting a copy of the will, I can run off a copy and mail them.
