Patrick Gorman was born about 1831-1833 in County Clare, Ireland.  His father died in Ireland and in about 1841, Patrick and his mother came to the U.S. settling in New York state. According to Patrick's great-granddaughter, at some point Patrick returned to Ireland and helped organize a colony of about 20 related families to emigrate to the U.S. Patrick and Mary Maher (or Mehan) were married in Binghamton New York in 1851.  The couple lived in Scranton, Pennsylvania at some time and by 1856, Patrick was settled on a farm in Eagan Minnesota next to the John and Michael Gorman families.  Patrick is believed to be related to the other Gorman families that settled in Eagan in the 1850's.  Patrick's wife, Mary, died sometime between 1867 and 1871.  She is said to have been buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in Mendota.  See the Patrick Gorman biography.)

The family name used by Patrick and his children was O'Gorman though the name used by family members was shortened to Gorman in the 20th Century.  Census and other records in Minnesota appear under both names.

Elizabeth was born in Pennsylvania and the other children were born in Minnesota.  Patrick and his children left Eagan and moved to Wheatland Township in Rice County around 1870.  James was on the  Eagan farm of Patrick and Margaret (Gorman) Quealy in 1880.

Patrick married Mary Flynn in 1871.  Mary was born in Vermont and had a brother named Cornelius who lived in Minnesota.

Patrick died in New Prague, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, about 1887. Mary went to Saint Paul and in 1890 married Maurice Bambery.  Sons Cornelius and Daniel settled in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota.  Honora and her husband, John L. Morrison, lived in Duluth, Minnesota where John published a controversial newspaper, The Duluth Rip-saw. After John died, Honora moved to Des Moines, Iowa.
