Very little is known about Patrick Mullery prior to about 1858. He was known
to have been born somewhere in Ireland (possibly Co. Mayo) and appears to
have arrived in Minnesota some time in the early to mid-1850s. He was apparently
located in Dakota County prior to 1858 when the baptism of his first known
child is recorded. He is not recorded among the earliest settlers to the
county and it is possible that he resided for a while in St. Paul before
moving to Dakota County. In any event Patrick and his wife were already settled
on a farm in Rosemount Twp. in 1860. Nothing is known about his wife and
it is not clear when they were married. There is some evidence to suggest
that Winnifred was in fact related to an obscure family that settled in Lebanon
Twp. some time in the 1850s. Patrick was also known to have a close relative
who was married to Martin Bohan , settled for a short time in the area and
may have later moved to St. Paul. It is also possible that Patrick may have
also been related to a John Mullery that settled and raised a family in the
city of St. Paul but there is as yet no direct evidence to support this.
