  • These items are in addition to items previously acquired, including an 1836 bedspread, shawl, Ruthy Fulbright dress from 1840s, the first piano in Springfield and several hundred photos and documents from the Marion Hobblet estate; an adoption certificate, photo, and resume from Arthur Fulbright; color copies of family members and reunion photos from David & Pat Herd; reunion photo from Tom Herd; two framed photos of Fulbright ancestors from Irene Anderson, Grainville, MO; photo of Henry Fulbright s grave site from Vivian Litton, Waco, TX; two tintypes of Jacob & Nancy Fulbright from O. V. Fulbright, Houston, TX; mounted panels of photocopies of Fulbright documents from Lovell Fulbright; photocopies of 2 German certificates from Judy Fulbright, Catawba, NC; hand-made lace and hand-woven coverlet made by Judith Ruth Fulbright Hale from John & Marynell Walker, Austin, TX; Fulbright genealogy book from Eugene Fulbright of Hickory, NC; nine original letters dated in the 1860s from Jean Burgess, NY; Snapshots of Springfield, MO in the 1950s and 1960s from Bill & Bev Fulbright, Springfield; and Fulbright genealogy chart from Ed Stout, Fallbrook, CA--just to name a few.

NOTE: The Ruthy Fulbright dress is currently on temporary display as part of the rotating exhibit; this exhibit is on "Collecting to Preserve History"

Julie March, curator of the History Museum, also asked me to let the FFA know about the possible availability of a matching grant of $3000 to $5000 for restoring the first piano in Springfield, which is part of the Fulbright collection. The grant must be matched by an equal amount, and would allow restoration of a rare piece of Springfield and Fulbright history and make it available for exhibit. The condition of this rare, pre-1830s piano is very bad, and it cannot be moved out of storage or displayed without making its condition worse. I would like to ask the Board to offer this opportunity to the membership for consideration.
