GLADYS FULBRIGHT HUMPHRIES OLDHAM

Gladys Humphries Oldham, 89, of Batesville, Ark., formerly of Newark, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Batesville. Born July 20, 1911, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Harrison and Della Moser Fulbright. She was a homemaker and attended First United Methodist Church of Newark. Survivors include a son, Gary L. Humphries of Indianapolis; two daughters, Oma Jean Humphries of Benton and Patsy Tosh of Batesville; a sister, Grace Fulbright of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Vickie Gagne of Fort Worth, Texas, Gerald R. Tosh of Montgomery, Ala., Sandra Moody of Jamestown, Sheri Ward and Kathy Carnett, both of Little Rock, Kenny Tosh of Batesville and James Humphries of Indianapolis; five stepgrandchildren, Austin McGowan of Salt Lake City, Glenda Baker, Gale Sweeney and Sandy Stapleton, all of Anderson, Ind., and Mike Turcotte of California; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Kenneth Humphries and James Oldham; her parents; a son, William "Bill" Humphries; and a brother, A.J. Fulbright. RUTH JOANN SLISHER FULBRIGHT

Ruth Joann Slisher Fulbright, 53, of Batesville, Ark. died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at a local hospital. Born March 27, 1947, in Wabash, Ind., she was the daughter of Paul and Mary Slisher of Batesville. She was a retired assembly line worker from ConAgra. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Batesville. Survivors include her husband, Billie Fulbright; three sons, Michael Fulbright, Brian Fulbright and Bradley Fulbright, all of Batesville; two daughters, Janice Lawerence and Anita Nail, both of Batesville; four brothers, Art Slisher, Bill Slisher and John Slisher, all of Batesville, and Dick Slisher of Indiana; three sisters, Rosemary Walker and Elda Franks, both of Batesville, and Namona Nelson of Texas; seven grandchildren; and her mother. She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Robert Slisher; and a niece, Laurel Lawrence. Burial was in Campground Cemetery at Bethesda. Pallbearers were her sons and sons-in-law. ALVIN "SOL" FULLBRIGHT

SYLVA, N. Car. - Alvin D. "Sol" Fullbright, 89, of Old Settlement Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Skyland Care Center after a period of declining health.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. He was an educator serving 30+ years teaching at Balsam, Johns Creek, Oak Hill, Wilmont, Zion Hill, Qualla, Webster and Whittier, where he also boarded during the week. He served as principal at Qualla, Webster, Whittier, retiring while at Webster. He was a basketball coach, he played basketball with W.C. Teacher College, was a charter member of Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame, an avid fox hunter and a member, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent of Webster Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Thomas Polk and Ellen Cowan Fullbright. He was preceded in death by the children's mother, Nell Byrd Fullbright, who died in 1980, and his second wife, Cathryn Davis Fullbright, who died in 2000; a son, Bobby Fullbright; and a grandson, Ricky Fullbright. Surviving are three sons, Jerry Fullbright and his wife Ginger of Sylva, Kenneth Fullbright and his wife Jean of Weaverville and Alton Fullbright of Winston-Salem; daughters-in-law, Birdean Fullbright of Brevard and Nancy F. Bates of Lexington; a sister, Nan Ross of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Monroe Fullbright of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens. SARA MARIE SNIDER FULBRIGHT

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Sara Marie Fulbright, 90, of Jefferson City died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Jefferson City Manor Care. She was born July 28, 1910, at Cape Girardeau, daughter of Robert B. and Sue Bergman Snider. She and Carleton Barfield Fulbright were married Feb. 9, 1935, at Poplar Bluff, Mo. He died Jan. 1, 1999. Fulbright was employed as a teller at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Cape Girardeau and later worked at the Architects and Engineers Registration office; the Missouri Board of Accounting and A-1 Small Engine Professional Sales and Service Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include a son, C. B. Fulbright Jr. of Jefferson City.
