Fulbright  Family  Association  NewsLetter  Articles

From our President
Bill Eddleman

First of all, my apologies for getting this newsletter out so late. Some of you know that I have also been serving as the Chair of Southeast Missouri States Faculty Senate, and that has eaten up a lot of time. However, I also received no material from anyone (except the reunion information and the obituaries, birth announcements and other news--thanks to Vera Harrill, David and Patricia Herd, and Paul Fullbright) that was suitable for cutting and pasting into the newsletter. Folks, I like to write these articles, but not if I dont have enough time. So, please forward those articles, or information about your families, for the next newsletter. This will have to come out in May (after this Faculty Senate job belongs to someone else), to precede the reunion.

Plans are moving along for the reunion (see page 2). David and Patricia came over to Lebanon in September, secured the Hampton Inn for lodging, and cleaned some of the Hooper Cemetery. Im heading over right after this newsletter is mailed to do some more. Vera has arranged for the banquet and business meeting site and made other local arrangements. Im sorry to say I will be unable to attend this year, however. I am preparing a talk for the banquet, though, and will either have our cousin David Fulbright present it, or send a videotape of it. Id love to be there, and regret that I cant. However, Chris (my son) and I are going to be on a trek at Philmont Scout Ranch that week, and the date wasnt set until after we had set the FFA Reunion date. Ill only be able to do things like this with Chris for a few more years, since he will be in college in 5 years, and Ill be getting too creaky to backpack for 60 miles! I will DEFINITELY be there at Lake Junaluska next year!

I will have to say that response to the request for those who want to receive the newsletter electronically was underwhelming. I only got about 10 messages, which is far too few to achieve the cost savings we were hoping for to avoid a dues increase. We have two choices, both of which I would like to have us consider at the business meeting in Lebanon. One is to raise dues, the other is to raise dues by a smaller amount and mail the Fulbright Family News at a bulk mailing rate. Your choice--but please attend the business meeting or voice your opinion to me beforehand.

I have been saddened by the number of loved ones we have all lost in the last year. Please keep all of those who have experience losses in your hearts and prayers. I also always think that the time to talk to loved ones is NOW, not to regret not having done this when those dear to us were alive.

I appreciate those others who provided material that I used to work up the articles in this newsletter--Karen McClaren, Pam Bradley, Earl Mickel (for permission to reprint the Austin Fulbright article), and David Fulbright. Hope you all enjoy it!
