From our President

Bill Eddleman

As I’m writing this, St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. While I can’t claim any Irish ancestry (yet), we do celebrate at our house because Hope is ¼ Irish. If you are an Irish descendant, then I hope you were able to celebrate with us! Our reunion is coming right up--just three months away, and I hope to see many of you there. Details are on the next page, and you should make those reservations early so we can PLAN. We especially need to know how many are going to attend the banquet. I’m happy to report that I will be coming out to North Carolina a week before the reunion to do some genealogy research and visit some sites in Rowan, Davidson, Catawba, Lincoln, and Gaston counties (as well as Haywood, where we are having the reunion).

Please note a new feature that we will be including on the back of this newsletter. The date in the box is when your membership expires, and your dues are due. We hope this will avoid any confusion about when to pay dues, and will help retain members in the FFA.

Work is progressing on the deed abstracts book I plan on issuing for the FFA at the reunion. Those who have ancestry in Haywood County should find them very useful. I’ll be including a page or two of excerpts in the next FFA News.

Once again, I want all who have not served the FFA as officers to please consider doing so. Thus far, we only have the newsletter covered for the next two years. I will stay on as editor (but NOT as President), and Patricia Herd has graciously agreed to stay on as publisher. We will need a new President, Vice-President, Membership Secretary/Treasurer, and Recording Secretary.

I also want to take this time to thank all those who sent family items for this newsletter, and especially to Roy Dickson for sending the results of his recent research on Fulbright topics, and Carolyn Fulbright for forwarding the article on Bob Fulbright. There will be one more newsletter before the reunion (in May). Keep those family articles and news items coming!
