The banquet program will tentatively feature a presentation by Shook genealogist Bob Jones, on the Shook family in the context of events in western North Carolina in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The Shooks were cousins to the Johann Wilhelm Fulbright line, since Christina Shook was his wife, and so the talk will have a direct relationship to the descendants of Jacob Fulbright Sr. and John Fulbright Sr., sons of Johann Wilhelm.

Local Sights: The reunion will feature a self-guided tour of the local “Fulbright” sights. Included will be the church on the grounds of the Center, built by Guy Fulbright; the Jacob Shook house in Canton (see next page), a center for early Methodist gatherings; the Locust Field Cemetery, reputed to be the burial place of Jacob Fulbright Sr.; Morning Star Methodist Church, where Jacob Fulbright may have attended church; and Dutch Cove, where the Fulbrights and related families of Smathers and Evans lived from about 1801 to 1835, and where John Fulbright Sr. once had a mill. Attendees interested in local or family history of the area can also plan to arrive early and visit the Waynesville Public Library (excellent genealogy section), or the Haywood County Courthouse.
