Some earlier deeds from the area are recorded in Buncombe Co., because Haywood was formed from Buncombe in 1809. My commentary is given in brackets at the end of each deed as appropriate.]

Page 70. 10 Feb 1809. John FULBRIGHT to John McFARLAND. For the sum of $400, 75 acres on the E side of Pigeon River, adjoining Joseph DOBSON on the S; also bounded by Taflelar; part of a 250,240 acre grant to David ALLISON, purchased by John STROTHER at sheriff’s sale for 1796 taxes on 29 Sep 1798, and sold by him to sd FULBRIGHT on 10 Feb 1801; beginning at a cluster of pines in the fork of a little branch. For the sum of $100, 75 acres, more or less, on the E side of Pigeon River, joining Michael DEFADELLAR on the S & E; part of 250,240 acres, Grant No. 251 to David ALLISON, granted on 29 Nov 1796, and sold to John STROTHER at sheriff’s sale; beginning at a small hickory sapling near the big road. For the sum of $300, 50 acres, more or less, on the middle fork of Hominy Creek, known as Thompsons Mill Fork; part of 250, 244 acres originally granted to David ALLISON as No. 251 on 29 Nov 1796, sold by James HUGHEY, Sheriff, to said STROTHER for 1796 taxes on 29 Sep 1798, by said STROTHER to Corbin THOMPSON, by Samuel WILLIAMS, Sheriff, to George THOMPSON to satisfy an execution of £58 on 20 Jan 1806, and by George THOMPSON to said EVANS; beginning on a hickory on the W side of the creek below the mill. For the sum of $1000, 150 [115?] acres, more or less, on the W side of Pigeon River; originally granted to said STROTHER in 1802, and entered 22 Apr 1800; and beginning on a white oak, the beginning corner of a tract formerly owned by John CRAIG and Isaac EATON on the river bank. For the sum of $500, 100 acres, more or less, on the N fork of Homeney Creek above where the old garden path crossed going to Pigeon River; part of two tracts originally granted to Robert GELASPY on 16 Dec 1799, once claimed by John STROTHER, and conveyed by said GELASPY to said FULBRIGHT on 18 Jan 1802, the other on 22 Jan 1800; and beginning on a black oak on the summit of a ridge. For the sum of $500, 300 acres, more or less, on the waters of the S fork of the N fork of Homenney Creek, on both side of a little branch, [where] the old war path comes down; part of 250,240 acres granted to David ALLISON, and sold to said STROTHER by Sheriff James HUGHEY at sheriff’s sale for 1796 taxes on 29 Sep 1798; sold by said STROTHER to John FULLBRIGHT on 10 Feb 1799; and beginning at a white oak on the side of a hill near the old path, about 100 yards from said branch on the W side. For the sum of $220, 114 acres, more or less, on the waters of the S fork of the N fork of Hominy Creek on the head of a little branch, near the war path; part of 250,240 acres granted to David ALLISON, and sold to John STROTHER by Sheriff James HUGHEY at sheriff’s sale for 1796 taxes on 29 Sep 1798; conveyed by said STROTHER to John FULBRIGHT on 10 Feb 1799, and by him to Jacob FULBRIGHT on 6 Sep 1816; and beginning at a white oak on the side of a mountain on Jacob FULBRIGHT’s old line. For the sum of $300, 128 acre, more or less, on both sides of Richland Creek, including the plantation whereon said FULBRIGHT now lives; bounded in part by Martin BUFF; subject to a claim by Waighstill AVERY; and beginning on a white oak corner of a tract belonging to the heirs of George CRAWFORD. For the sum of $20, 50 acres on a branch of the S fork of the N fork of Hominy Creek, joining 300 acres sold by said STROTHER to John FULBRIGHT; part of 250,240 acres granted to David ALLISON, and sold to said STROTHER by Sheriff James HUGHEY at sheriff’s sale for 1796 taxes on 29 Sep 1798; and beginning at a large hickory on the line of said tract on a ridge. For the sum of $700, 100 acres, more or less, on the S fork of the N fork of Hominy Creek; originally granted to Robert GALLASPY on 6 Dec 1799 as No. 730 and John STROTHER on 10 Dec 1799 and conveyed from Robert GELLASPY to said FULBRIGHT on 22 Jan 1806; and beginning on a stake in the branch, John SMATHERS’ corner. For the sum of $500, 300 acres, more or less, on the S fork of the N fork of Hominy Creek and the Wagon Road, including both the grist mill and saw mill; agreeable to a agreement by John FULBRIGHT and Robert LOVE, agent of John STROTHER dated 30 Jul 1813, which halves out part of said 300 acres on the S side of the Wagon Road; also taking in part of 50 acres granted by said STROTHER to Corbin TOMSON, sold by the Sheriff to George TOMSON on 20 Jan 1806, sold by him to Jacob EVANS on 12 May 1806, and by him to John FULBRIGHT on 18 May 1811; bounded in part by David FULBRIGHT and Robert LOVE’s Gremount line; and beginning on a maple in a branch. Page 50. 30 Jun 1830. Jacob FULBRIGHT to Jacob SHOOK. For the sum of $310, mortgage on 300 acres, more or less, on the headwaters of Hominy Creek in the Dutch Cove, being where said FULLBRIGHT now lives; and beginning on a white oak on the side of a hill near the old War Path about 100 yards from said branch on the W side. The debt is due in five years from this date, and this mortgage is not to interfere with the part of the tract heretofore sold to Peter FULBRIGHT. Signed Jacob FULBRIGHT. Test James R. For the sum of $53.25, 25 1/2 acres, more or less, on both sides of Richland Creek; part of a tract originally granted to Waightstel AVERY; bounded in part by said FULBRIGHT; and beginning at a post oak opposite the bank of the creek on the SW side, above a pavement of rocks. For the sum of $1, 3 acres, more or less, bounded in part by Joseph KIRKPATRICK and Coonrod SELLERS; beginning on a bunch of alder bushes and pointers. Signed Daniel SIPE. Wit Benj. CLARK, jur, William LAFUNG. The handwriting of said CLARK was prvd by Samuel FITZGERALD and N. G. HOWELL at Jun 1837 Court. Reg 8 Jul 1837.
