David Herd is our featured Board Member for this issue. He had his wife Pat are the publishers for the newsletter. Many of you know David from the family reunions.

David was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1948 on Easter Sunday, March 28th to Paul Andrew Dutcher Herd and Marylouise Campbell. He is a direct descendant of William Wilson Fulbright, the founder of Springfield, Missouri. He has a linelong interest in family history he says, "For example I have my original birth announcement." His father and mother moved to Oceanside, California and from there to Ft. Riley, Kansas. His father was in the military service. His parents were separated in 1949. After that, he moved to live with his grandmother, Lucy Maud Carson Campbell. Lucy's mother was Mary Gabrella Fulbright, daughter of John Yount Fulbright, prominent Springfield banker who was the son of Ephriam Fulbright. Ephraim was the son of William Wilson Fulbright.

David attended the Springfield, Missouri public schools at Campbell Elementary, Jarrett Junior High School, and Central and Parkview High Schools, graduating in 1966.

After high school, he worked for the Frisco Railroad for ten years, in the oil fields, and as a trucker. Following an injury in Tulsa he went to OSU at Stillwater and to OSU Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Whie at OSU Tech, he was on the Directors Honor Roll with a 3.9 grade average and was named the Outstanding Student in Printing Technology. He holds the Associate Degree in Applied Printing Technology.

David works at McGrew Color Graphics in Kansas City, Missouri. He and Patricia Gregory have been married for 18 years. They live at 8708 East 79th Terrace in Raytown, Missouri. Their large home features a basement dedicated to family history and publishing the family newsletter. The closets are stacked with records and papers. Pictures of both David's family and Pat's family hang on the walls. The Herds have bitten by the bug. They are family historians and genealogists.

Those of us who know David best know that his best decision was in chosing Pat. We should feature her as well, but that would a precedent which is dangerous in a family organization. Hats off to David. We are one of the few family organizations with a professional printer in charge of printing our work! Thanks, David.
