Minutes of the Meeting

The general meeting of the Fulbright Family Association was called to order by President Gerald Fulbright at 10:00 AM who welcomed all in attendance.

Catherine Houser gave the invocation, and the pledge of allegiance was led by Judy Fulbright.

Welcomes were extended by both Mayor Donnie Fulbright of Mt. Pleasant and Mayor Joe Baird of Batesville.

David Fulbright paid tribute to Marion Hoblit for her foresight and endeavor in establishing the Fulbright Family Association. She was a beloved descendant of the William Fulbright who founded Springfield, Missouri.

Theresa Moser Fulbright along with Debbie Fulbright Landers, Dr. Deborah Fulbright and Donnie Fulbright presented information as to the Arkansas history and genealogy. A video presentation was made by Jim and Donnie Fulbright of historical places and cemeteries of the Arkansas Fulbright families.

The minutes of the general meeting of June 24, 1995 in Springfield, MO, were read along with the executive board meeting which was held on June 25, 1995, both of which were approved.

Treasurer Roger Gephart reported a balance of about $2,600 before meal costs of approximately $1,000 dollars were paid; with a membership of 77 having dues paid to 1997. A motion was made by Martin Fulbright, which was seconded, to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion passed.

It was suggested and approved that the newsletter of the Fulbright Family Association contain the minutes of the Association meetings, and that newsletters be included in the Fulbright Family Archives at the History Museum for Springfield-Greene County in Springfield.

The newsletter editors and publishers need material and request input from the membership.

Tom Bishop reported on the cleaning up of the Hooper Cemetery near Lebanon, MO, by the volunteer work of Bob, Bill and Don Barr, which resulted in the old historical cemetery being made much more accessible to those wishing to visit.

Judy Fulbright presented a suggestion that Lake Junaluska be the site of the 1997 reunion in North Carolina, and asked that it be approved. She was instructed to proceed with the necessary arrangements to use that site.

President Gerald Fulbright reported the deaths of O.V. Fulbright and John Carthel. They will be missed.

The names of Russell Blake, Jesse Fulbright and Rebecca Fulbright are to be added as regional representatives of the Association.

It was moved, seconded and passed that Clara Maddox’s family be included in our Springfield Reunion in 1998. They will receive an invitation to join us there.

An announcement was made regarding the family picture to be taken immediately following this meeting. Also that a video shown at this meeting, of the Arkansas Fulbright line, is available from Jim or Donnie Fulbright which they recently completed.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
