Old Independence Regional Museum

President Gerald Fulbright has requested that the Fulbright News staff inform you of a very important family project. At the Batesville Reunion, the association voted to support the Old Independence Regional Museum Capital Development Program; which is a unique regional museum. Those of us at the meeting were favorably impressed with the plans to make the museum available for researchers and their desire that copies of Fulbright records be placed in the museum archives.

Gerald wrote as follows in a recent letter about this matter, "It is my hope that everyone in our family will help with this worthwhile project. It will be a great place to do genealogical research on the Arkansas family line."

The following information is contained in a letter to President Gerald Fulbright of the Family Association. Please, read it carefully and consider making a contribution.

Exerpted from the letter:

"Old Independence Regional Museum, located in Batesville, Arkansas, will serve a 12-county area. It will preserve items of historical interest and will tell the story of the people who roamed, settled and developed this large region in north central Arkansas.

"The Museum will also serve as a research center, with a climate-controlled vault to house the region s early public records, dating back to the 1820's, and private collections. A large study room will provide comfortable space for the many who do genealogical and historical research here.

"The Fulbright Family Association voted to support this Museum by calling for the members to make pledges toward a special computer carrel to be located in the study room. This carrel and a computer with CD-ROM will cost approximately $3,000. Researchers will be able to use the computer to access an index to all of our archival material, and will eventually be able to cross reference all material by surname. This study carrel and computer will be designated as The Fulbright Family Research Carrel and a framed description of the family will be placed near it.

"You may make a pledge by filling out the form and sending it to us. Please write "The Fulbright Family" in the blank for honoring an individual or family. Thank you for all your fine support."
