Old Independence Regional Museum

The Historical Museum in Batesville
Grand Opening on September 12, 1998.

Regional in scope, the museum offers two major services: interpretive h istory exhibits and an archival wing for genealogical and historical research.

Dr. Deborah Fulbright has funded a 10 ft. study carrel in the archival reading room as a memorial for her father, Floyd Fulbright. The Museum Director, Twyla Wright, had this to say:
"We want to offer the Fulbright Family Association an opportunity to contribute toward our archives, also. We have a need for secondary research books to fill the bookcases adjacent to Debbie's study area. As individuals, Fulbright descendants may send a check to fund one or more books. We have a wish list of 200 books, ranging in cost from $10 to $50.
"A fine book plate with the donor's name and the name of the association will be placed in each of the books you finance. such funds will greatly benefit us, and will let the Fulbright name be recognized by those who come to research here. Send contributions to Old Independence Regional Museum, PO Box 4506, Batesville, AR 72503. Your gifts are tax deductible. If you want more information, call 870-793-2121."

Note: Old Independence County covers 12 present day counties. A Heritage Walk is being prepared. Sections of the sidewalk will have names carved into them. If your family was part of the settlement of this region, you may wish to have their names and dates carved into the walk. For more information call the museum.
