The death has occurred in England of Captain George Ralls, aged 92 years, who had a lengthly connection with sailing ships trading between England and New Zealand toward the end of the last century. Captain Ralls made 5 trips to New Zealand in the old "City of Auckland" which he first commanded in 1872, the fifth was marked by the wreck of the ship, which became a total loss on Otaki beach in 1878. It was in this vessel that the late Mr W F Massey came to New Zealand. Captain Ralls had hundreds of Immigrant in his care on the various trips. He was recognised as a fine sailor, and he had a wide circle of friends in New Zealand.
