Furniss Vohs Home Page Kilzer Index
Prepared by Sean Furniss
Revised 20 April 2001
The information that was used to start this record was provided by Paul Kilzer (#32) and Paul R. Kilzer (#41). Additional information about the early Kilzer family records were provided by Ruth I. Kilzer (#42). Early Kilzer family records are recorded in the bible belonging to Ruth J. Weber, a decendent of Edward Kilzer. Additional records are recorded in the "Palatines to America Immigrant File." Other family members also generously contributed copies of records and provided information about their families.
A variety of spellings of the family surname exist and include the following: Kültzer, Kueltzer, Kiltzer and Kilzer. The Kilzer spelling came into use with the emigration of the family to the United States in 1838 and has remained unchanged since the early 1800's.
Although these records show Germany as the country of origin for this family, it should be kept in mind that during the 1700's and early 1800's Germany did not exist as a country. During that time period, this area of present day Germany was made up of city states, dukedoms and kingdoms. While this family lived in Rinthal during the early 1800's, they found themselves in the Kingdom of France, followed by the Kingdom of Prussia.
This internet version is an edited version of the source document. Information about living members of this family has been reduced to protect their privacy.
