Joan Gallop was the only known daughter of John Gallop and Christobel Bruschett.  She was born abt 1618 in Bridport, Dorsetshire, England and died 20 Mar 1691 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., MA.  She was married to Thomas Joy in abt 1637 and they were the parents of 10 children.  Joan outlived all of her siblings and lived to be the age of 73.  These photos were taken by Jamie Moore of a cemetery behind the Old Ship Church in Hingham, MA.  Jamie tells me that one of the Joy descendants erected new stones in 1930.  Thanks much to Jamie for these photos!

Thomas Joy was probably born abt 1610 in Norfolk, England.  It is unknown to me as to who is parents were however I have seen notations that he immigrated in 1635.    He was a House-carpenter, Millwright & Architect.  He married Joan Gallop in 1637.  Thomas & Joan were the parents of Samuel, John, Thomas, Joseph, Ephraim, Sarah, Benjamin, Elizabeth, & Ruth.

These are the photos of Joan Gallop Joy's gravestone.  Whomever replaced the stones certainly kept these in the style of other 17th century stones that I have seen.  My original note on this family had them buried at the Churchyard behind Hingham Meeting House.  Those of you in the region probably can tell me if the Old Ship Church and the Hingham Meeting House are the same buildings.

Joseph Joy, Jr. was the grandson of Joseph and Margaret Prince and grandson of Thomas Joy and Joan Gallop.  His father died at see on 31 May 1697.  Joseph was b. 30 Jul 1668 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., MA and d. 29 Apr 1716 Hingham, Plymouth Co., MA.  He was married to Elizabeth Andrews on 22 May 1690 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., MA.  He and his wife were the parents of 8 children.
Ruth Joy was the daughter of Thomas Joy and Joan Gallup.  She was b. 28 Feb 1658 in Boston, MA and d. 11 Apr 1774 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., MA.  She was married to John Low on 25 Sept 1679 and they had 7 children.  After his death in 1708, Ruth remarried John Curtis in 1719.
