Francis Edward Waltz was born on March 25, 1888, the youngest child of Michael J. Waltz and Elizabeth Eichenlaub.  He was baptized on April 29, 1888 by Rev. Martin Ryan at St. Augustine Church, St. Augustine, Cambria County, PA.  His godparents were Jacob Gantz and Mary Waltz.

Francis grew up on the 97 acre family farm just outside of Chest Springs Borough.   His father was a  prominent builder and contractor throughout the area. 

He married Lucille A. Behmer on August 19, 1914 in Pitcairn, PA (Allegheny County).  Francis and Lucille had 3 children and lived in the Altoona area:

Francis died on November 6, 1968, and Lucille died in July of 1980.
