Welcome to our genealogy page featuring approximately 14,000 entries taken from church and census records from the area surrounding the Gaspe Bay in Quebec, Canada.
In the mid seventeen and early eighteen hundreds our ancestors came to Gaspe seeking a new and prosperous life. What most of them found instead was a life of backbreaking work in a rugged but beautiful part of Canada. They were a very self-reliant people who managed to eke out a living by farming, lumbering and fishing. When the railway was built in the mid eighteen hundreds, the exodus that still continues to this day began. They moved to all parts of Canada and the United States and as a consequence, many names that were once familiar around the bay have completely disappeared.
This is our tribute to all those who have gone before and a legacy to all who will follow.
Because there were so many families with the same surnames, and because many of the children ended up having the same Christian name it is a daunting task, at times, to sort out which children belonged to which family. It is for this reason some of the names in the database are not connected to any parents or spouse.
