George was cupbearer to Godfrey of Piesenburg, Prince Bishop of the ecclesiastical principality of Wurtzburg, Chancellor to the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. They accompanied the Emperor on the Third Crusade (1189-1192), dying soon after the Emperor, and were buried in the Church of St. Peter at Antioch
