FAY CHILDRE,
Across the Fence
By Arvord Abernethy
Mrs. Fay Childre was telling you two week ago in the Herald-News about the 50th anniversary of her high school class at Star. Don’t you know that was an exciting occasion to be together for the first time in 50 years?
Fay was showing me some of the old pictures and telling of some of the goings on. Her late husband, Don, had been in their class, but cut his foot severely that year and had to stay out of school. They had been sweethearts for some time, so went ahead and married soon after school was out. Don went on to school the next year and finished. One girl was so anxious to get married, she eloped right after the graduation exercises and had Fay to turn in her cap and gown the next day.
Fay had other pictures of picnics and school activities, and it looks like kids did about the same things in 1933 as they did in 1923
or 1983.
