HANSON & DRAKES
Across the Fence
By Arvord Abernethy
About two weeks ago we were out driving around and noticed a plane flying around over town at a fairly low altitude, and wondered then who it was. In a day or so we learned that it was Harry Hansen taking Mr. and Mrs. Owen Drake and Owen’s sister, Mrs. Grover (Susie) McAnelly for a joy ride in his Cessna 310 plane.
Mrs. McNelly is 93 years young and this was her first time to fly, but it was “love at first flight”. She really loved it and is ready to fly again. It was probably a bigger thrill to her than that first ride in that Model T. back in the early days. It was also Vivian’s first flight, but I’m not telling her age.
Harry has been a pilot for Continental Air Lines for a number of years and works out of Houston, He bought the Owen Drake farm out on the Evant highway a few years ago and constructed a landing field on it to use as he commutes back and forth to Houston.
