Lucius Franklin "Frank" Bonner Jr., 73, of Hamilton County
died Thursday, May 21.
Services were Saturday, May 23, at First United Methodist Church in
Hico under the direction of Rutledge Funeral Home.
Mr. Bonner was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Dallas, the son of Mayme
Weathersbee and Lucius Franklin Bonner. He was a longtime rancher and
educator, having moved to the Bonner Ranch in Fairy in 1953. He was a
graduate of Texas A&M University and received a masters of education
degree from Howard Payne University. A veteran of World War II, he
served in the US Navy as Quartermaster Assistant. He taught school and
was elementary principal for more than 25 years with the Fairy and Hico
independent school districts from which he retired in 1985. After his
retirement, he traveled frequently over a period of six years devoting
his many talents to researching and compiling an extensive family
history.
He was married to Mary Ona Whitson Bonner. She preceded him in death
in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Bonner of Fairy; two sons, Lucius
Franklin Bonner III of ..., and Jon Cullen Bonner of ...; two daughters,
Melanie Malinda Bell of ... and Melissa Lori Clifton of ...; a stepson,
James Loman Wiley of ...; two stepdaughters, Judith Gwen Wiley of ...,
and Kelly Jean Simmons of ...; eight grandchildren; and seven
step=grandchildren.
