GRANDMA PIERSON
"Grandma" Pierson was J. G. W. Pierson’s third wife. It was
his first wife Mr. Williams was descended from. She liked whisky and he
would bring her a pint. And she smoked a clay pipe. (I had thought
otherwise, as to the relation, but it is here written down from his lips).
Told of the time she had a party and he got too hot and drunk and started
back to the store and had trouble going over the board bridge.
(Talking about the split in the church over the organ and music above,
Mr. Williams sided with the new branch. I asked his feeling on the music
question and he said, I didn’t gave a ... ." Others took it more
seriously.
(Some years ago I was doing free legal work for the Church of Christ. A
lady willed them a building that they wanted to sell. One proviso was that
they must abide by the old doctrines, especially that there must be no
instrumental music. I told the member submitted the work to me, that one
tune from a fiddle or organ, and their legal title would be gone.
