GOES TO A DANCE
He told about a dance over at Bowman’s in the edge of
Lampasas County. He and Charlie Day took two Rice girls and two Grigsby
girls. And some "high-stepping" girls from Center City were
there. There were two big rooms with a big fire in one and supporting
posts in another. One of the girls turned Marion Roddy (one of my
uncles from over in the Shive community)
loose and he went reeling against one of the posts across the room, and
came back and said, "I’d like to trade for you." Charlie Day
took the Rice girl whom he later married, one of the daughters of Ellen
Rice, the lady who ran the hotel or boarding house. Believe she was the
wife of John Rice, who he said ran off. Had three girls.
