HOOVER, OF THE KNOBS

Mr. Williams said he never knew Old Man Hoover, for whom Hoover’s Knobs, visible in the western part of the county. That he had pretty daughters, one of whom married Hill, a Comanche newspaper man. And they were smart. He did not think the Hill was the older brother of the great geologist Dr. Robert B. Hill. (Still feel he might have been). Hoover was there very early.

(A good deal about Indian troubles around the Hoover family in Elias Deaton’s classic book, not now in print, about Indian depredations in this part of the state. Believe there is a small Hoover cemetery out on the road.
