DAVE COX
Dave Cox was killed and buried down there at the old Pierson
place on the Leon
River. The place he pointed out to us when we were down there. Mr.
Williams’ grandfather, John Hogue, he said was also buried there. (One
of Mr. Williams’ brothers was Hogue Williams, and a nephew living here
now, 1976, bore the same name. He could not think of the names of the two
men who killed Dave Cox. It was over a beef steer some way. He said that
the story is not true that he came up on these two men skinning his steer
and that they shot him and were later hanged. Cox lived less than two and
a half miles from Pierson’s.
