They show Adam Witcher and J. A. Leonard indicted in September, 1870,
for disturbing religious worship by loud talking and sneering. Witnesses:
Parson Coker and Al Hoover, B. F.
Gholson, and T. J. Moss went on Witcher’s
bond. Leonard isn’t heard of again. Witcher failed to show up at the
March, 1870, term. His bond was forfeited, and a scire facias
issued, Morris, Sleeper, and Jones of Waco answered for them, and that Witcher,
ill with gunshot wounds and that it would have endangered his life to
come.
They had subpoenaed James
Rice and someone else, including John Brown, as witnesses, the
penciled verdict says: "Not Guilty," signed by J. H. Isham,
foreman.
