THE HAMILTON INCIDENT

Mr. Williams says that when Witcher shot into the church on present Bell Avenue, or about it, T. J. Moss was the one who shot the Old Man Witcher with a five shooter in the jaw. It had also been said the old man wasn’t in the party. He said that Grandma Pierson was in the church at the time. That in those days they usually carried on a good deal at church with shouting and so on. Witcher was killed in 1873 he thought (correct) and Adamson, the lawyer, was killed in 1874.

He said he got mixed on dates. (I think he was the most accurate on dates that I ever knew). When he went out west after his brother Hal was killed, Sheriff Massie deputized him. But he feels like that was in 1891, and if so John Bird was sheriff then. Massie told him to look the prisoners over in the jail at El Paso for one Dan Logan. They passed the prisoners in review, but he did not see Logan.

(Mr. John Mark Williams, his brother told me their brother Hal was killed by the Apache Kid. The story is that he was visiting Joe Rice at his ranch in New Mexico, wandered out in the morning and was killed.)
