THE STATE OF TEXAS, County of Hamilton}I,
Mrs. M. E. Segrest do hereby make application to the Comptroller of Public
accounts for a pension, to be granted me under the Act passed by the
Thirty-third Legislature of the state of Texas, and approved April 7, A.D.
1913, on the following grounds:
I am the widow of R. B. Segrest, deceased,
who departed this life on the 12th. day of April, A.D. 1920 in the County
of Hamilton in the State of Texas.
I have not remarried since the death of my
said husband,* and I do solemnly swear tht I was never divorced from my
said husband, and that I never voluntarily abandoned him during his life,
but remained his true, faithful and lawful wife up to the date of his
death. I was married to him on the 28th. day of January, A.D. 1869, in the
county of Talbot, in the state of Georgia.*
My husband, the said R. B. Segrest,
enlisted and served in the military service of the Confederate States
during the war between the States of the United States and he did not
desert the Confederate service. I have been a resident of the State of
Texas since prior to January 1, A.D. 1910, and have been continuously
since a citizen of the State of Texas. I do further state that I do not
receive from any source whatever money or other means of support amounting
in value above the sum of $300.00 per annum, nor do I own in my own right,
nor does anyone hold in trust for my benefit or use, estate or property,
either real, personal or mixed, either in fee or for life, of the value of
one thousand dollars, exclusive of the home of the value of not over
$2000; nor do I receive any aid or pension from any other State of the
United States, and I do further state that the answers given to the
following questions are true:

of Texas? 51 yrs.
4. How long have you resided in the county
of your present residence: 50 years.
5. What is your post office address: Hico,

6. Have you applied for a pension under the
Confederate pension law and been rejected: No.
7. Did your husband draw a pension? no
8. What is your husband's full name? R. B.

9. In what State was your husband's command
originally organized? Alabama
10. What was the name or letter of the
company, or number of the regiment in which your husband served? If he was
transferred from one branch of service to another, give time of transfer,
description of command and time of service. He first enlisted in 6th Ala
Reg at Tuskegee, Ala in 1861, but was discharged and afterward re-enlisted
in Co., F. 12 Ala. Reg. Rhodes Brig. D.H. Hill's Div.

application for a pension may be approved and such other proceedings he

Texas, on this day personally appeared W. T. Saxon & S. W. Medford,
who are personally known to me to be creditable citizens, who, being by me
duly sworn, on oath state that they personally know that M.E. Segrest,
applicant for a pension as the widow of R. B. Segrest deceased, is in
truth and fact the widow of R. B. Segrest deceased; that they personally
know that she has not remarried since the death of her husband, for whose
services in the army she claims a pension, and that they have no interest
in this claim.*

CERTIFICATE OF STATE AND COUNTY ASSESSOR -
I, Tom C. Pirson State and County Assessor in the County of Hamilton State
of Texas, do certify that Mrs. M. E. Segrest whose name is signed to the
foregoing application for a pension, under the act of the Thirty-third
Legislature, approved April 7, 1913, is charged on the tax rolls of said
county with a homestead of the value of X X X Dollars, and of other
property, real or personal, or both, of the value of X X Dollars. Given

This is to certify that I, D. G. Barrow,
was personally acquainted with R. B. Segrest and that I positivley know
that said R. B. Segrest enlisted in the 6th Alabama Regiment at Tuskegee
Alabama in the spring of 1861 and that said R. B. Segrest served as a
solder in the Confederate Army throughout the Civil War. (D. G. Barrow)

County of El Paso State of Texas on this date, June 8th-1922, personally
appeared D. G. Barrow, known to me to be the person whose signature
appears above and stated that to the best of his knowledge and belief the
above is a true and correct statement.

the undersigned authority in and for Bosque County, Texas, on this
personally appeared H. G. Lamar, known to me to be a credible person and

Reuben Segrest and know that he served in the Confederate army and the
source of my information is that we together, inlisted at Tuskegee Alabama
in 1861 and was with him continuously together until 1865. We served in

record of R. B. Segrest who is reported to have enlisted in Company (
blank ), Regiment he first enlisted in 6th Ala. Reg. at tuskegee Ala in
1861, but was discharged and re enlisted in Co. " F " -12 Ala.
Reg. Rhodes Brig. D. H. Hills Div. in service in the Confederates States
Army.
Purpose: The above person above named is an
applicant for a Confederate pension granted by the State, and I desire to
verify his proof of Service.

B. Segrest has not been found as of any 6th, Ala. Organization, CSA. The
records show that R. F. Segrist (also found as R.F. Segrest), Pvt. Co.F
(also borne as R. B. Segrist, Co.B), 12th. Regt Ala. Inf., C.S.A.,
enlisted in Mason Co.,Ala., June 12, 1861, and was discharged near
Winchester, Va., Oct. 3, 1862 (cause of discharge not shown). (signed)

February 7, 1939: Mrs. M. E. Segrest, Widow
of R. B. Segrest, deceased Confederate Soldier, Pension file No. 38359.
The records of this office show that Mrs.
M. E. Segrest, widow of R. B. Segrest drew a Confederate Pension from the
State of Texas under file number 38359 until her death.
The application of Mrs. M. E. Segrest was
approved on the following report furnished this office by the Adjutant
General, War Department, Washington, D. C.
"The name R. B. Segrest has not been
found as of any 6th Ala. organization, C.S.A. The records show that R. F.
Segrist (also found as R. F. Segrest) Pvt. Co. F, (also borne as R. B.
Segrist, Co B) 12 Regt, Ala. Inf. C.S.A., enlisted in Mason Co., Ala. June
12, 1861 and was discharged near Winchester, Va. Oct. 3, 1862 (cause of
discharge not shown)." (unsigned) Comptroller of Public Accounts.
March 5, 1937: The records of this office
show that Mrs. M. E. Segrest, widow of R. B. Segrest drew a Confederate
Pension from the State of Texas on his record until her death under file
number 38359.
The report from the office of the Adjutant
General, War Department, Washington, D.C. on the service of R. B. Segrest
as a Confederate soldier reads as follows: " The name R. B. Segrest
has not been found as of any 6th Ala. Organization, C.S.A. The records
show that R. F. Segrist (also found as R. F. Segrest) Pvt. Co. F, (also
borne as R. B. Segrist, Co. B) 12th Regt. Ala. Inf. C.S.A. enlisted in
Mason Co., Ala. June 12 1861 and was discharged near Winchester, Va. Oct.
3, 1862 (cause of discharge not shown)."

Mrs. Ford: I thought I read on the
originial war record of my Grandfather Segrist where he enlisted again
after Oct. 3, 1862. The enclosed record doesn't show such a re-enlistment
and I may be wrong about it all. Thanks for a recheck. Kal Segrist, Asst

July 26, 1957: Mrs. Mabel Huckaby,
Confederate Museum, Old Land Office Building, Austin Texas.
Dear Mrs. Huckaby: Mrs. M. E. Segrest,
Deceased Widow of R. B. Segrest, Deceased Confederate Soldier. Pension
File No. 38359 Hamilton County, Texas.
The records of this office show Mrs. M. E.
Segrest, widow of R. B. Segrest filed application for Confederate Pension
in the State of Texas June 21, 1922 on the military record of her deceased
husband.
Mrs. Segrest stated she was 73 years of
age. Date of birth is not given. She was born in Talbot County, Georgia
but had resided in Texas for 51 years. She was married to R. B. Segrest on
January 28, 1869 in Talbot County, Georgia. Mr. Segrest's death occurred
April 12, 1920.
Mrs. Segrest stated that R. B. Segrest
first enlisted in the 6th Alabama Regiment in Tuskegee, Ala. in 1861. He
was discharged from this organization and afterward re-enlisted in Company
F, 12 Alabama Regiment, Rhodes Brigade, D. H. Hills Division.
The application for pension was approved on
the following report furnished this ofice by the Adjutant General, War
Department, Washington, D. C.
"R. B. Segrest has not been found as
of any 6th Ala. Organization, C.S.A. The records show that R. F. Segrist
(also found as R. F. Segrest) pvt. Co. F, (also borne as R. B. Segrist,
Co. B) 12th Regt. Ala. Inf. C.S.A. enlisted in Mason Co., Ala. June 12
1861 and was discharged near Winchester, Va. Oct. 3, 1862 (cause of
discharge not shown)." Mrs. Segrest drew a Confederate Pension until
her death. Date of her death is not shown. Yours very truly, Robert S.

APPLICATION FOR MORTUARY WARRANT = STATE OF
TEXAS County of Hamilton}I, A. O. Segrest do hereby certify that I am the
person to who is entrusted the paying of the accounts and indebtedness of
the late Mrs. Mattie E. Segrest, who was a pensioner of the State of
Texas, and whose file number was #38359 and whose original county was
Hamilton. The said pensioner Mrs. Mattie E. Segrest, died on the 8, day of
May, 1924, in the town of near Hico, County of Hamilton, Texas.
The pensioner died in the home of her own
home, with C. B. Segrest who was related to the pensioner as son. That the
warrant, which application is hereby made for, shall be applied to paying
all or part of the expenses incurred by the said pensioner Mrs. Mattie E.
Segrest.
I further certify that the warrant for the
current quarter has not been cashed by the pensioner, to the best of my
knowledge and belief.
I am related to the pensioner as son, that
my postoffice address is Hico, Hamilton County, Texas.

CERTIFICATE OF UNDERTAKER}I, G. M. Barrow,
do certify that I am undertaker in the town of Hico County of Hamilton,
State of Texas that I had charge of the body of Mrs. Mattie E. Segrest,
who died in the town of Hico, County of Hamilton, State of Texas on the 8
day of May 1924. That said body was prepared for burial by me on the 8 day
of May, 1924, and that I am of the opinion that warrant herein applied for
should be issued to the said A. O. Segrest who makes the foregoing
application.

CERTIFICATE OF PHYSICIAN}I, Chas M. Hall,
M.D., do certify that I am a practicing physician, and that I attended
Mrs. Mattie E. Segrest in her last illness, and am of the opinion that her
ailments were Cancer of stomack. I further certify that I am of the
opinion that the Mortuary Warrant above requested should be issued in the
name of the aforementioned applicant, in accordance with Act passed by the
Thirty-eighth Legislature, and approved March 2, 1923.
