Willie Elmer Bates, 64, passed away in the Hamilton
County General Hospital after a lengthy illness at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug.
27.
Services were held in Riley Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m.
Tuesday with Rev. Gilbert Donald presiding. Burial was in the New
I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hamilton.
Mr. Bates lived most of his life in the Hamilton area. He
was a trucker and carpenter. He was born in Lampasas County April 2,
1914, the son of C.C. [Charlie Carlton] Bates
and Emma [Surilla McCoy] McCory Bates.
He was a Baptist and a veteran of World War II. On May 3,
1939, he was married to Pauline Bessie Wagner. Mrs. Bates survives him.
Other survivors include his father, C. C. Bates of
Hamilton; one son, Wesley Bates of Hamilton; one daughter, Mrs. Sanford
(Shirley Ann) Milner of Odessa; five brothers, Paul Bates and Johnny
Bates of Hamilton, Wayne Bates of Hurst, Charlie Ray Bates of
Gatesville, and J. B. Bates of Llano; four sisters, Mrs. Weta Laverne
Spray of Hobbs, N.M., Mrs. Myrtle Kincheloe of Hamilton, Mrs. Alice Faye
Waddell of Evant and Mrs. Maudie Baker of Gatesville; and two
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Krueger, Johnny Ray Bates, Wesley
Wagner, John Kincheloe, M. C. Harris, Robert Don Bates, George Tubbs,
and Billy Dale Warren.
