     Winnie Davis Wheeler Holmes, 88, died May 15 at Forest Oaks Nursing Home after an extended illness.
     Graveside services were Tuesday, May 17, at Old Hamilton Cemetery with William Caldwell of Grapevine and Robert Ross of Hamilton officiating.
     Mrs. Holmes was born July 19, 1905 in Coryell county, the daughter of B. F. and Lou Ayers Wheeler. After living for two years at the Methodist home in Waco, she was adopted in 1915 by Tom and Annie Smith of Hamilton.  She and Frank Holmes were married June 18, 1921.  He preceded her in death on May 18, 1980. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Mae Holmes, two sisters, and three children in infancy.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian church.
     Survivors include a brother, George T. "Buddy" Smith of Arlington; two nieces, Norene Walls of San Antonio and Debbie Stifflemire of Hamilton; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Rotan of Fort Worth and Ruth Camp of Arkansas.  Also surviving are her long-time friend and caretaker,  Emily Cathey and the Cathey children and grandchildren, whom she considered her own.
     Pallbearers were J. K Wilhelm, Gilbert Rabbe, Bill Snell, Marcus Cathey, Ted Cathey, Bobby Stidham and Leo Walls.
