KOEN & FOSTER

_____

Among the leading drug firms in Hamilton is that of two enterprising young men, John Koen and Robert Foster of the Koen and Foster Drug Store on the west side of the square.

Mr. Robert Foster, member of the firm, is a Texan, born in Coryell County. He is a graduate of the North Texas Teacher’s College of Denton and a Texas University man. After completing his education Mr. Foster followed the profession of teaching and taught for 12 years; 4 years as principal of the Weatherford Schools and three years as principal of the Hamilton schools, and five years as Superintendent of the Hamilton Public School system. Mr. Foster is a son of Will J. Foster, a Mississippian, who took an active interest in the welfare of his native state. After reaching Texas he settled in Coryell County. He married Miss Martha Ann Adams whose father was an extensive slave and land owner before the Civil War.

After the death of his father, though a lad, began earning is own career and after completing his education and several years as an educator, decided to enter the drug business with two other young men of equal enterprise, John D. and A. J. Koen. They formed the partnership and established the drug firm now known as Koen and Foster.

A few years later A. J. Koen withdrew from the firm to prepare himself for the practice of dentistry, which he is now successfully following.

Mr. Foster married Miss Frances Louise King, born in Dallas, and reared in Granbury. Her father, David M. King was born in Scotland near Dundee, famed in song and story. He was a noted singer and a member of a noted choir and sang before Victoria, Queen of England. Upon reaching the United States, Mr. King was employed by the most noted New York jewelry firm, Tiffany Bros., to manage an estate, which was his occupation for a while. He then came to Texas with Dallas as his destination. Mrs. Foster’s mother, Elizabeth Hall was born in Tallahassee, Florida, but was married in Dallas. After leaving Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. King spent the remainder of their lives in Granbury and Hamilton.
