Vivian (Bill) Andrew, 69, of Fort Worth, died in a Fort Worth hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 4, following a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Evant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dean Coultas and Harriet Prinz officiating. Burial was in Pearl Cemetery.
 
Miss Andrew was born in Thackerville, Okla., on June 1, 1918, the daughter of the late William G. and Mary T. (Shook) Andrew. She had lived in Fort Worth since 1970. Miss Andrew was retired from the field of viral research at Fort Detrich, Maryland. She was a veteran of the Women's Army Corps of World War ll. She was a Methodist.
 
Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Carroll of Pearl, Winifred Sage of Neosho, MO., and Katherine Corbin of Waco; and two brothers, G. S. Andrew and W. G. Andrew, both of Fort Worth.
 
Pallbearers were Don Andrew, James Andrew, Joey Carroll, Von Carroll, Eddie Browning, Michael Fetner and Gary Fetner.

Albert Apel Jr., of Gatesville, died Saturday, Sept. 28, [1991] at Providence Hospital in Waco following a short illness. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 30 at the Pearl Cemetery with Rev. Harold Charlisle and Rex Tilly officiating.
 
Mr. Apel was born Dec. 14, 1916 in the Plainview Community of Coryell County to Albert Carl Eric and Lizzie Schaub Apel. He married Galyds E. Patterson Feb. 9, 1946. He worked in Civil Services at Fort Hood, was a veteran of WW ll where he served in the U.S. Army, Pacific Theater, a member of the Gatesville Chapter of the D.A.V., and member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the First Nazarene Church in Gatesville.
 
He was preceded in death by one sister, Loise Stephens; and one brother, John Ausust.
 
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Apel of Gatesville; three children, Doris Jean Novosad of Bryan, Cathy Zumwalt of Buda, and Albert Apel lll of Waco; two sisters, Norma King of McKinney, and Elfrieda Schoenewolf of Brady; three brothers, Eddie Apel of Austin, Edwin Apel of Arlington, and Carl Apel of Burleson, and three grandchildren.

BALLARD, CECIL LEO

Cecil Leo Ballard, 85, of Purmela, died Dec. 15, 1989, in a Gatesville hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 18, at Scott's Funeral Chapel in Gatesville with the Rev. Rex Tilley officiating. Burial was in Pearl Cemetery.
 
Mr. Ballard was born Sept. 28, 1904, in Taylor County to the late James H. and Myrtle Ballard. He attended school in the Pearl community in Coryell County. On Jan. 18, 1923, he married Miss Lonnie Bee Manning, and they made their home in Pearl until moving to Purmela in 1935. Mr. Ballard was a farmer and rancher, and also operated a fence building business. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 3, 1988, and by two brothers, Loraine Ballard and O. C. Ballard.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Gerry) Bearden of Odessa and Mrs. John (Sharon) Carl of Houston; one grandson, J. Hudson Carl of Houston; and three sisters.
 
Serving as pallbearers were Gerald Wayne Barrington, Ronald Ballard, Ray Conner, Edwin Ballard, John H. Conner and Glen Conner. 

Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Jones, Billy Haines, Jackie Lovell, Jackie Brewer, Glen Harper, Jimmy Wayne Ballard and Charlie Ballard

BALLARD , JEWEL (ONEY)

Jewel (Oney) Ballard died Nov. 20 at Coryell Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Nov. 22 at Evant Funeral Home with Edwards Schuab officiating.

She was married to O. Z. Ballard Nov. 12, 1927. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived most of her life in Pearl and was a member of the Pearl Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband, O. Z. Ballard, a son, Ronald James Ballard, seven sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Betty Jo and Clyde Wilson of Pearl and Peggy Sue and Charles Parks of Sam Rayburn; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Ann

Ballard of Round Rock; four grandchildren, Rickey Parks and Wife Connie of Humble, Mike Powell of Pearl, David Parks of Sam Rayburn and Ronnie Ballard and his wife Laura of Garland, and a great-grandson, Ben Ballard.

Pallbearers were R.J. Blacklock, Kerry Keeton, Glenn Conner, Craig Manning, Ronald Ray and James Donald Creacy.

 

BATES, GUY CLIFFORD "G. C."

G. C. Bates, 91, of San Saba, formerly of Pearl, died Dec. 20 at Eventide Nursing Home in San Saba after an extended illness.
 
Graveside services were Dec. 22 at Pearl Cemetery with Clyde Wilson officiating.
 
Mr. Bates was born March 13, 1902, in Coryell County. He married Unice Moore Feb. 11, 1926.
 
He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a Methodist.
 
Survivors include his wife, Unice Bates of San Saba; eight children, Vonceil Gardner of San Saba, Mollie Wells of Clinton, Ark., Bob Bates of Monument, N.M., Willis Bates of Midland, Leroy Bates of Lewisville, Peggy Iry of Clinton, Pete Bates of Mesa, Ariz., and Bertie Stephens of Hurst; two brothers, Henry Bates of Fontana, Calif., and JImmy Bates of San Angelo; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

CARROLL, TRAVIS DOUGLAS

Travis Douglas Carroll, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at Scott & White Hospital. 

Services were Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Evant Funeral Chapel. Interment was to be in the Pearl Cemetery at a later date. 

Mr. Carroll was born April 24, 1912, in the Izoro community of Coryell County, the son of Mark Wright and Maudie Mae Hammock Carroll. He spent his early life in the Izoro and Pearl communities and attended school at Gatesville. He was married to Dorothy Wayne Andrew on May 10, 1935, at The Grove. He was a carpenter and builder who lived with his family in Waco, Odessa, Lubbock and Fort Worth prior to his retirement and return to his home community of Pearl. He was a member of the Baptist church. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nelva Dain Carroll, on Feb. 29, 1996, and by a sister and a brother. 


Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Carroll of Pearl; four children, Joey Douglas Carroll of Dallas, Lyndon Von Carroll of Fort Worth, Mary Anne Smith of Edwardville, Ill., and Nancy Deborah Vazzi of Chatham, Ill.; a sister, Vaughn Dain Freeman of Gatesville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 

COBLE, BENNIE WADE

Bennie Wade Coble, 67, died Dec. 25, 2003 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held Dec. 27 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Chapman officiating. Burial was in Pearl Cemetery. Mr. Coble was born May 8, 1936 at Overton, the son of Curtis Richmond Coble and Frances Irene Williams Coble. 

At the age of seventeen he entered the Army during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Austria during much of his Army tour where he learned to mountain climb and ski. 

Mr. Coble was married to Sarah Ann Doyle on March 28, 1958 at Fort Worth. 

He was active in the community where he was a contractor and builder, coach in the Little League ball program, a member of the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department until his retirement where he had held various offices and served as an emergency medical technician. He was a member of the Rock House Masonic Lodge and the Grace Pentecostal Church. For a number of years he was a truck driver hauling milk from the Central Texas area to the processing plants. 

Mr. Coble loved to fish. He also loved to visit with his family and many friends in the coffee shop or wherever they met. Bennie never met a stranger. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Ruth Palmer. 

Survivors include his wife Sarah Ann Coble of Hamilton; three children, Curtis Coble of Hamilton, Scott Coble of Gatesville and Russell Coble of Jonesboro; five grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Martin of North Richland Hills and Janie Martin of Slidell; and one half-brother, Robert McAfee of Lubbock. 

Pallbearers were Cruz Moncada, Larry Curry, Keith Curry, Johnny Jones, Durwood Marwitz, and Joe Dalton.

COLLINS, VALETA FAE (WHITE)

Valeta Fae Collins, 79 of Fort Worth died Jan. 31, 2005 at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton with Rev. Keith Felton officiating. Burial will be at the Pearl Cemetery.

 
She was born Oct 8, 1924 in Evant. She married Wilber Lawrence Collins on June 6, 1947 and raised her family in Groves. She then lived in Hamilton until 1998 when she moved to Fort Worth to an assisted living home.
 
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Lawrence Collins, a daughter, Nancy Joyce Dietrich, sisters: Juanita Collins Lovell, Leona Bilberry and Violet Freeman; brothers: Graves, Autry, Hershel (Boots) and Forrest White.
 
Survivors include her daughter, Katie Bray and husband, Leo of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Stephanie Merling of Highland Village, Stacey Morrow of Indianola, Miss, Bobbie Werth of New Orleans, La., and Lauren Bray of Fort Worth; grandsons, John Allums, Jeffery Dietrich and Lawrence Kellar of Port Neches; sister, Verda Calhoun of Evant; twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 COX, EULA MAE (WHITT ) (COX)

Eula Mae Cox, 96, died Dec. 10 at Coryell Memorial Hospital in Gatesville. Services were held Dec. 12 at Evant Funeral Home Chapel with Gene Lyles Place officiating. Burial was at Pearl Cemetery. 

Mrs. Cox was born March 3, 1903 in Pearl, the daughter of George W. and Frances Quicksall Whitt. 

She was married to Charlie Emmett Cox on April 7, 1923 at Pearl. He preceded her in death on Aug 30, 1949. She later married Walter Douglas Cox who preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1957. 

She has lived most of her life in Pearl, but lived for a number of years in Brady. She was a seamstress and a member of the Church of Christ. 

Three sisters, five brothers and a grandson precede her in death. 

Survivors include her daughter, Charline Cox Conner of Bee House; three grandchildren, Glenda Fuqua of Lubbock, Sandra Conner Losano of Corpus Christi and Frances Conner of Copperas Cove; a sister, Cora Cunningham of Fort Worth; three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

Pallbearers were Paul Woods, Bill Whitt, George Blasingame, Sam Blacklock, Joey Partin and Rus Anderson. 

The family has designated the Pearl Church of Christ for memorials. 

DOYLE, CLEBURNE FERN

Cleburne Fern Doyle, 82, died July 27 at his home in Pearl.

Services were July 29 at Pearl Baptist Church with the Reverend John Weaver officiating. Burial was at Pearl Cemetery.

Mr. Doyle was born Nov. 1, 1916 at Pearl, the son of John Beverly Doyle and Molly Ellen Beavers Doyle. He married Mary Lee Sims June 3, 1935 in Gatesville.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Sea Bees. He served three terms as Coryell County Commissioner for Precinct 1. He was a man who loved his family, loved to travel and enjoy nature. He also loved music and people. He was a member of the Pearl Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Don Doyle.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Doyle; seven children, Beverly Ann Freeman, Bill Doyle and Kennith Doyle, all of Pearl, Anita Boswell of Brownwood, David Lee Doyle of Gatesville, Bob Doyle of Boston, Mass., Mary Ellen Delacruze of Andrews; two sisters, Elizabeth Newland of Gatesville and Evelyn Harris of Pearl; 27 grandchildren and a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren.

KEETON, GRADY

Grady Keeton, 86, of Pearl, died April 15 at his home. Funeral services were held April 18 at the Gatesville Funeral Home. Burial was at the Pearl Cemetery. 

Mr. Keeton was born Aug. 12, 1916 in Pearl, the son of Greenland Franklin and Myrtle Oney Keeton. He was married to Mamie Lois Miller on March 24, 1939. She preceded him in death in 1973. In 1974 he was married to Florene Wood Parrish. 

Mr. Keeton was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, trap, fish, farm, play dominoes and garden. He played basketball and baseball at Pearl High School and continued for several years afterwards. He was instrumental in establishing a Little League Baseball program at Pearl, including the building of a baseball field. 

He loved having his grandkids spend time with him in the summer and enjoyed attending sporting events in which they participated. 

Mr. Keeton operated the same farm from the age of 16 until 2000 when bad health forced him to retire. He was a painter in Killeen, a long-time Coryell County School Board member and served on the Board of Directors for the Coryell County Farm Bureau. He was instrumental in establishing the Multi-County Water Supply Corporation and served for many years as member of the Board of Directors. 

He was a Christian and he attended the Pearl Church of Christ where he was a member for more than 60 years. 

Survivors include his wife, Florene Keeton of Pearl; a daughter, Kathy Keeton Sievers and husband Steve; a son, Gary Keeton and wife Debbie; a daughter, Kathy Bynum and husband Donald; sons, Wayne Parrish and Penyson Parrish and wife Dena; a sister, Emma Jane Culp; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were Geremy Keeton, Gip Keeton, Graig Keeton, Brian Luensmann, Tom Patton and Tim Wilkinson. 

Honorary pallbearers were Greg Culp, Mark Creacy, Bertis Ballard, Nelson Lee, Penyson Parrish, Wayne Parrish, Donald Bynum, Glen Connor, James Donald Creacy, Larry Creacy, Otha Medart and Jack Elam.

A. B. (Boone) Wilkinson, 96, of the Pearl community, died Dec. 28, 2002 in Breckenridge. Funeral services were held Dec. 31 at the Gatesville Funeral Home chapel with Edward Schuab officiating. Burial was at the Pearl Cemetery. 

Mr. Wilkinson was born July 5, 1906 in Bertram, the son of George and Mary Alice Wilkinson. He was married to Leota White in December 1930. He was a farmer and a member of the Pearl Church of Christ for 57 years. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leota (Sicken) Wilkinson; his parents; five brothers and three grandchildren. 

Survivors include four sons, Ray Wilkinson, Jim Wilkinson, Mack Wilkinson and Tim Wilkinson of La.; three daughters, Tommie Carswell; LaVerle Tennison, and Mary Boudreau; two sisters, Edith Maxwell and Ruby Lee Armstron; 21 grand-children; 40 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. 

Memorials may be made to the Pearl Church of Christ or the Pearl Community Center.
