MAJOR C. W. COTTON  --1897

Major Cotton was born Feb. 19, 1853, in Anderson County, TX. He moved when a child to Marion County, where he resided until he was grown. He was educated in the common schools of the country and completed his education at Daingerfield in 1873. He then read law in Jefferson, Texas, under Messrs. Crawford & Crawford and was admitted to the bar in 1875. In 1875 he came to Hamilton, was appointed county attorney in 1887, and elected to the same position in 1888. At the expiration of his term of office he formed a partnership with C. K. Bell, which lasted several years. He then was elected county judge, and later became a member of the 18th Legislature.

Though Major Cotton is dead, his widow still lives at Houston.
