Mr. Dean was born in Alabama in 1822, came to Hamilton in 1876, was elected district clerk in 1880, and held the job for 16 years. He then refused to run any oe. He was a prominent Democrat and active in the Methodist Church.

The County News has been informed that Mr. Dean was related to R. B. Miller. He lived in a house on the lot where the John Koen home now is.
