JOHN D. HUNT  --1897

[JOHN DILLARD HUNT]

Mr. Hunt was born in Bastrop County, Texas, in 1839, and came to Hamilton County in 1883. He bought land on the Cowhouse, and engaged in farming and stock raising specializing in well bred Holstein and Jersey cattle. He was elected county commissioner in 1896. Mr. Hunt was a Confederate soldier.

Mr. Hunt was identified with the location of Hamilton where it now is as the county seat. The County News has been informed that he offered to donate land to locate the county seat about seven miles southeast of the present location, and there was an election held to determine which location should be used.

John W. Hunt, now living at Hamilton (1938) is a son of John D. Hunt.
