[WILLIAM BENTON McANELLY]

Mr. McAnelly was a native of Texas, born in Nacogodoches County in 1849 [sic--born 20 July, 1842]. He came to Hamilton in 1873 and started as a renter farmer, but before long he owned 1,000 acres of rich Leon River bottom land, 300 of which was in cultivation. He was twice county commissioner, being elected the first time in 1844 [sic--1882], and again in 1896. He was justice of the peace for more than 20 years.

Conley, Grover, George, and W, B. McAnelly of Hamilton are his sons, and Mrs. Wheeler Pigg is his daughter.
