 MARTHA ANGELINE (JONES) SANTY

WOMAN TAILOR

MRS. CLEO SANTY

Hamilton has the distinction of having a woman who owns and operates a dry cleaning establishment. She is Mrs. Cleo Santy, a native Hamiltonian.

Mrs. Angeline Jones Santy was born in Hamilton. She is one of nine children, six girls and three boys, all of whom live in Hamilton except one sister. Her parents were J. D. Jones of Illinois and Melissa Thomas Jones of Kentucky, who came to Hamilton in the early days. She graduated from Hamilton High School and married Cleo Santy in 1920. [The marriage of C. L. Santy and Angeline Jones was recorded in Hamilton County Marriage Record Bk. 8, p. 99,]

The tailoring business was established by her late husband on the north side of the square, the year of their marriage. Several years later they moved to Lamesa where they remained for two years and upon returning to Hamilton, Mr. Santy started in business in the present location. Mr. Santy, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Santy was killed in an automobile accident in May, 1933. After his death, Ms. Santy took charge of the business and has conducted it successfully ever since. She has one daughter Billy Margaret, who graduated from the Hamilton High School this past May. [Billly Margaret married Cornelius M. Hatch.]
