ROCK HOUSE CEMETERY

ROCK HOUSE Cemetery is  6 ½ miles northeast of Hamilton on County Road 301 which exits from Hwy. 22 east of Two Mile Creek.

Charlene  Livingston Rose provided the information that three Civil War soldiers were buried in the Rock House Cemetery--two Confederate and one Union.  The grave of the Union soldier--John Layton Carlisle-- was not marked with a stone.

The Confederate soldiers identified by James Alfred "Son" Livingston were (1904-1997):

George Martin Looney
Alexander A. Simpson

Looney's Confederate Pension #A51604 lists him from Hamilton.  His tombstone in the Rock House Cemetery reads:

G. M. Looney
1-4-1844
7-20-1938

James Alfred "Son" Livingston knew Mr. Looney who related that he entered the Civil War at the age of 17.

Simpson's Confederate Pension #A33054 also lists him from Hamilton.

A. A. Simpson
12-15-1838
9-17-1930
Wife:  Harriet Emma
3-25-1863
8-5-1910

The Simpson's daughter, Nina Malone taught school at Rock House.  Mrs. Malone told the story that her dad did not like boiled okra.  After fighting hard all day boiled okra was good, especially since it was all that the soldiers had to eat.

Charlene has been to the grave of the Union soldier buried at Rock House, but does not now recall its location.
