MARIETTA -- Services for Jimmy Wayne "Jim"
Weathers, 64, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 15,
2003, at Eastside Baptist Church with
the Rev. Ronnie Harris and the Rev. Steve Gardner officiating. Interment
was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral
Home.
Born Aug. 12, 1938, in Marietta to Richard O. and Martha M. (Rowland)
Weathers, he died Jan. 12, 2003, at an Ardmore hospital.
An Air Force veteran, he received his bachelor's degree from
Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, in 1963 and his master's degree
in divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, in 1968. Jim
pastored Southern Baptist Churches in Avoca, Rhome, and Odessa, TX;
Ouray, CO.; Oil Center, NM; East St. Louis, IL; and in Oak Harbor, Ohio. He lived in St. Louis,
MO, before returning to
Marietta in 1990. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, taught
Sunday school and did a study of the Baptist doctrine.
Survivors include a daughter, Melanie D. Gaston; his mother, Martha
Weathers, of the home; a brother, Ray R., Hamilton, Texas; and a
granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Breck Allen; and a
sister, Virginia Cowley.
Bearers were Gerry and Bobby Cowley, Richard Weathers, G. W. Flanagan,
Dennis Lopez and Dale Harvey. Ray Weathers was an honorary bearer.
