Matthew Butler was born in Barley Hole, near Wentworth, October 22, 1830 and baptized December 12, 1830 in Wentworth Chapelery, Wath upon Dearne Parish, Yorkshire, England. His parents were Matthew and Sarah "Allot" Butler. Matthew was the fourth child of eight to be born. When only five months old, Matthew died on April 1, 1831 and he was buried on April 3.
