Obituary Notes for Frances PHILLIPS
Abstract of the Will of Frances (Phillips) Dale This abstract of the will of Frances (Phillips) Dale was published originally in 1968 in the following reference: Whitten, Joida (ed.). 1968. Abstracts of Bedford County, Virginia Wills, Inventories, and Accounts, 1754-1787. Publ. by Joida Whitten; printed by Taylor Publ. Co., Dallas, TX. I examined this volume in the Tennessee State Library and Archives (cat. no. F232.B4 W5) in October 2008. I post the abstract here--with minor editing for readability--as part of this genealogical research on the family of William Dale Sr. & Frances Phillips with acknowledgement to the original editor and publisher. Bedford Co., VA, Will Book 1, 1763-1787, p. 257-258: Frances Dale, Will. Dated: 10 May 1777 My dear beloved son Richard Dale all my stock of horses, cattle, and hogs and all my household furniture. My beloved son William Dale one pound five shillings for his part. My beloved daughter Elizeth [sic] Mason one pound five shillings for her part. (Note: Between the first and last name in the signature of this Will, there is a letter very much like a capital "O". It is not designated as being Frances Dale's mark, although it might have been.) Witnesses: Nathaniel Tate, William Terry, John Daniel. Proven: 28 July 1777 by oath of Nathaniel Tate and William Terry. No reference is made to an Executor or Administrator in the text of the Will as seen in Will Book 1, or when in was presented in Court.
